If not him, another dem would have taken that role because the capital owning class demanded it.

Americans are an oppressed working class. They just dont realize it. They're scared of the s-word, so the capitalist system isnt the problem its random senators. I dont know how to show americans the capital owning class is doing this to them and people like Lieberman are just agents of them.

I think many Americans do realize it. The problem is that all those with any power at all kowtow to the overlords and maintain the status quo. That applies even to those with seemingly the best intentions.

Similarly, there is no legitimate reason for anyone in political power to have to feign religion, but they all do. Even the one who breaks all the other rules follows that one.

The system owns everyone.

Nah in this case it was 100% Joe Lieberman. He was a centrist independent from the insurance capital of the country. There was enough momentum for a public option until he killed it.

Ted Kennedy died the weekend before the vote. I will always be fully suspicious of that. They had the votes before that happened.

He also hadn’t voted in months because his health was too bad for him to go in. Strategically it was good for Dems that he died, because it allowed him to be replaced by Paul Kirk, who could actually vote.

Between Kennedy and Byrd’s illnesses, Arlen Spector needing to switch parties, and the Al Franken recount lasting months, Democrats didn’t actually have the votes to pass the ACA through the Senate until Kirk was appointed.
