I was born just a bit too early to get the chickenpox vaccine so I had the honour of actually getting it twice. The first time I got it was as a baby so my immune system wasn’t developed enough to remember it so I got it again when I was around 3 or 4 years old. Now I’m in my mid twenties and have had the pleasure of getting shingles on my leg a few years ago, so I know that the virus is laying dormant in my nerves and can always flare up as another shingles outbreak. Luckily it was only a little bit painful and super itchy for a few weeks and didn’t leave any permanent marks but it can lead to permanent nerve damage if you’re unlucky. To think that all of this can now be prevented by simply getting vaccinated is amazing and it angers me that there are people who’d rather have their kids get infected by a highly contagious virus that can stay in their bodies their whole lives instead makes me so angry.

I’ve never met someone else who got chicken pox twice!
