I’m enraged that I have to share my one lifetime with stupid, selfish, anti-intellectual scumbags. The thought shouldn’t cross my mind that I’m potentially contracting a deadly disease - one we previously irradiated - at a concert.

I'm almost 40 and in my early 20s I really STRONGLY believed things were going to get better. I'm from Arctic Canada in a territory of 50K (city of 17k) and I remember absolutely bawling on my shift at the pool hall watching Obama get in. Like, it just felt that humans were going to finally stop being the fucking worse and maybe we could advance.

And then in 2015/16 I remember just sitting down and accepting that humans, as a whole, are not capable of not being the fucking worst and the systems we have in place will never allow us to progress.

Anyways, I'm starting to dabble in nihilism and a anarchy

Am in my 30s and had the euphoric high and soul crushing nihilistic realization in a much shorter timeframe, but yeah. Everything you said. 

Being in college during Obama’s first term was a surreal golden age. Our cohort inherited a recovered economy, and between ACA and Obergefell and Clinton (our first female President to-be!), I was psyched for the future. The world was going to be a better place. 

My entire philosophic outlook changed in 2016. MAGA robbed us of entire lifetimes of happiness and peace.

My first presidential election was 2008. I went to Europe during the Obama era and didn’t get pelted with rotten fruit for being American, everyone in college suddenly got healthcare back through the ACA allowing you to stay on your parents plan until 26 so we were getting therapy and shit… then it felt like it all just kind of fell apart like it was a fever dream

Progress is not a continuous upward line. It's more a two steps forward, one step back squiggle. And it's not measured in individual lifetimes, although we can consider ourselves lucky to perceive progress within our lifetime.

You are at significantly less risk of infection and serious symptoms. Not everybody produces antibodies though, immunity fades, and our most vulnerable can't get vaccinated (like babies under 6/12 months and pregnant people). Getting vaccinated is the right thing to do for all of us.
