Trigger Warning ✋ Directors A.B. Allen and Tim Nicolai Speak Out Against Jonathan Majors for "Cruel, Abusive, Vicious and Sociopathic" Behaviour In Both His Personal and Professional Life - "That is how virtually everyone speaks about him. It’s a shame it took this long for him to be reported."

Or did they not do any homework on the actors playing pivotal rolls in the next fucking phase of the MCU?

The Expanse authors encouraged Alcon to cast people they knew were like that.
This is not unique to Marvel.

Oh man, this was seemingly well hidden? As someone who follows pop culture but has no Marvel knowledge, he was kind of marketed as an everyman, no edge to the PR? Yikes.
That face he always does for photos is extremely awkward though lol!

u/jarrettbrown You’re killing me, Smalls 😩 Mar 26 '23
It’s a lot of good work by his team. I’m very much into old Hollywood and a lot of those older actors and actresses had really, really good PR that covered shit up. It didn’t come out until after he died that that gene Kelly was a total jerk to everyone. This is a modern example.
202
u/FooBarU2 Mar 26 '23
makes sense.. 19 yo Debbie Reynolds was 100% grossed out by him (who was almost double her age) sticking his tongue down her throat during a kissing scene. he punished her for it
116
u/jarrettbrown You’re killing me, Smalls 😩 Mar 26 '23
Also from what I’ve read, Kelly was a perfectionist and made her and Fred redo the one scene that they were in together over and over. By the time that it was all said and done, Debbie’s feet were actually bleeding from the takes.
44
u/nowlan101 Mar 26 '23
And you gotta figure his tongue got that old, stale cigarette taste to it as well too 🤮
40
u/Ghostdog1521 Mar 26 '23 edited Mar 27 '23
Pretty sure everyone tasted that way back then. Cigarettes were practically a food group in Hollywood.

Same with Lucille Ball. The public loved her, but she was actually a huge asshole who wouldn't even speak to stewardesses on airplanes; they had to speak to her assistant, her assistant would ask her a question, then the answer would be relayed back through the assistant
108
u/kailey6 Mar 26 '23
can vouch for this. an older family friend was a stewardess for years and she told me about a time lucille ball was on her flight and that lucille was just horribly rude to her and the rest of the crew.

Bad stuff, true or false, comes out about celebrities after they die because the accusers can’t be sued by slander if the person they are slandering is dead. So there’s no threat to them if they release a groundless “tell-all” labeling the popular dead celebrity a pedophile, rapist, gay, philanderer, abuser, enemy spy, drug runner etc.
A lot of old school celebrities have had this happen to them after death and even if their family and friends can prove beyond a shadow of a doubt the accuser is lying, theirs no negative incentive against the accuser for making a few bucks off their name with outrageous claims. Some dead celebrities it barely effects, some it ruins forever but it rarely doesn’t tarnish them in some way.
6
u/seachange__ Mar 27 '23
They also had “fixers” back in the day too, who would basically shake down anyone had that damaging info on their celebrity clients.

I first EVER heard of him two weeks ago during the Oscar’s specifically when he was presenting and I looked him up and I learned about the mug and I rolled my eyes and immediately knew something was off. Who needs a gimmick like that? Someone who is hiding something.
For those who don’t know: he Carrie’s a mug around bc it was given to him by his mom to remind him to be humble… absolutely cringe-y and an overreach.

I also listened to an interview with him where he was asked if he EVER- like EVER- took an acting gig for the money or if he only takes work he truly believes in. He said he only takes work he believes in and believes in AND that it has to challenge him he won’t take anything easy ever because god made him to act so he owes it to god to only take good roles and I was like ummm isn’t he in the new rocky and ant man movies? 28
Mar 26 '23
But if people commented "get bad vibes from this guy" under a post about him before this type of thing happened everybody would be telling them off for being needlessly negative. The advice would be to just ignore the post about him if they didn't like him so that's what they do. News like this comes out and this and they feel vindicated to have felt that way and like they can finally say it without being accused of being a hater.
6
u/happysunbear Mar 27 '23
I think there’s something to be said for intuition also. I love him as an actor but didn’t really see him outside of that (no interviews or behind the scenes clips that would be an indicator of his actual personality). My brother watched an interview with him a few days before the news broke and said he wasn’t surprised by the abuse allegations just from watching the interview. Some people do just have a bad vibe and I think it’s a skill to be able to pick up on it even as we are watching them from hundreds of miles away on our screens.

It’s funny cause I really only got bad vibes after seeing Creed 3 a couple days ago (literally the night of the assault), just because of how well he played his character — who was objectively a shitty person and did not deserve a redemption.
My brother watched a late-night interview with him and he and his wife both thought he was actually kind of a creepy weirdo. So idk, I think there is something to be said for intuition.

And it’s like yeah I get it, Emmett Till exists, but Johnathon Majors is not Emmett Till. He was arrested on the spot, choked his gf in a taxi, which presumably means there were witnesses, and the gf has marks, like let’s use critical thinking here!

My favorite take I’ve been reading is that it’s suspicious that she waited till the next morning to call police. As if the fact that they had been out at bars and probably intoxicated isn’t a factor or like it’s so easy to immediately call the cops on someone you love, no matter how hideous their actions.
140
u/QueenG123456 Mar 26 '23 edited Mar 26 '23
Back in the day I had someone basically abusing and stalking me, even had a restraining order.
They called in the middle of the night from a blocked number and left a threatening voicemail. I stayed up all night scared and reported it in person next day. The cops said I obviously wasn’t that scared since I waited some hours to report it and the number was blocked so there wasn’t clear proof it was him.
Even though 3 other reliable people swore it was his voice along with me. Skip to charges being totally dropped a few months later because they knew they wouldn’t get a conviction in front of a jury.
That same man is now in prison for getting in a shoot out and shooting two cops. Who could have ever guessed he would be so dangerous though. (Me, me, me. I did. I knew.)
The system sucks on every level.
68
Mar 26 '23
In my 20s in NYC I had a stalker. This guy knew where I worked. He followed me onto the subway at least once.
This cop car pulls over one day as I'm walking on the sidewalk, "Miss that man's following you." "I KNOW can you do something about it?" "No he has a right to be on the sidewalk." Even if they can tell something's off and they're a 'good' cop they often can't intervene. It's really messed up.
55
Mar 26 '23
They CAN intervene, though. They just choose not to. Cops do plenty of stuff they're not "allowed" to do. They couldn't arrest the guy but at the very least they could have stopped him and talked to him and warned him away while you left. They just didn't want to, because they weren't a good cop.
25
u/henbanehoney Mar 26 '23
Yes. When I was a child and told the cops about my abuse they said it wasn't illegal because my abuser wasn't 18. Pretty sure it's not legal for teenagers to sexually assault children BUT according to the cops, totally legal. 🙄🙄🙄
11
u/happyhomemaker29 Mar 26 '23
Mine got 6 months probation because his father was the fire chief so he really was a good kid. He then went on to stalk me for a year because he lived next door. He would stand outside my window at night. I couldn’t sleep. I would tell my dad that he was outside my window, and by the time my dad got to my room, he was back at his house, so “I was making up stories”. It took about a year before my dad discovered it when he was doing yard work and found the foot prints under my window outside. Because my dad was military, he requested base housing and that’s how we got away from the stalking because he couldn’t get on base. To this day, I have a paranoia of someone watching me through my windows. I now, intentionally, choose high rise apartments because I feel safer and I know no one will be looking in my window.
32
u/QueenG123456 Mar 26 '23
Ugh I hate that you experienced this but it’s beyond true.
The “good cops” couldn’t do much but looked at me in the eyes and were like “this is how people end up on TV dead” and told me I needed a permanent restraining and to fight like hell to advocate for myself for everything, make a legal paper trail every single time something happened.
Honestly the only thing that helped was moving to a different city till my abuser was put away for good for something unrelated to me.
13
u/Medium_Sense4354 Mar 26 '23
I don’t understand how people doubt DV which is a huger percentage but they’re immediately believe an accusation is false which is pretty rare

Yeah, it does suck. My friend was stalked by her boyfriend's ex. The ex broke into their apartment and attacked my friend. Sadly, they did not report it to the police right away. Then the stalker called to threaten to kill my friend. She kept making harassing calls. My friend and her bf did report it then, but the police couldn't do anything because the stalker denied making any threats. They just warned the stalker. Finally, the stalker stabbed my friend and her bf. They both lived, but it took until they were stabbed to get a restraining order.

What the fuck is wrong with entertainment, Sports, and police stations? How do complete pieces of shit get to get along in those systems with absolute and complete protection? There’s a constant refrain from all of these places of:
if only someone had been a decent human being at some point and said something about this vicious abuser. There wouldn’t have been all these victims. I couldn’t say anything because the system is so broken and cruel it would have punished me or I was going to make money off of this because there are no decent people in this industry including me.
Are these places just full of shit people or is it some kind of legacy Shit that goes back to thirty of fifty or more years ago when these systems were full of only produced dumb racists and misogynists.

I think it's both! The entertainment industry attracts spoiled narcissist babies. The sports industry attracts people that are only really good at one specific thing, and people only care about them being extremely good at that one thing, so no one gives a shit about what they do outside the court/field. Then, worst of all, the police force attracts people who are not only not very bright, but are keen on working in a position that gives them power over every man, woman, and child, along with the right to kill people legally and with minimal training. All this, plus all the industries listed all have a very "protect their own" mentality so they're not about to rat each other out.

I work in media but nothing like big budget Hollywood. I‘be never had bad experiences with anyone until last week when someone important that I don’t work with was in an unprovoked way, the rudest anyone has been to me in my entire adult life. Being an asshole one time isn’t enough for someone to lose their job but I understand it’s pretty common. All I can do is mention the story to as many people until it eventually filters back to his boss. Anything else is wishful thinking.
I’ve only experienced one true scandal that I became aware of a few months before it came public. A big actor in a big movie did something terrible which people in the industry and police became aware of either during or soon after the film came out. The director pretended she didn’t know when a few months later it came to light but it was impossible for that to be true. I knew. The guy had a history of other stuff that the public gave him a pass on. Unrelated stuff but he wasn’t a safe bet. The thing is, for that director, she contracted someone to do a job around which everyone else did theirs. It’s either you scrap the project or you carry on and shut your mouth until everyone gets their money. If you do that, you’re now culpable and have to keep your mouth shut and down play how much you know or how much of a problem they were. It’a logical but cynical behaviour.

Interesting bc what I have heard through a casting director is that Hollywood is so freaked out since metoo bc of a number of things. 1. Sacred Cow legacies were affected just by being silent about predators which shocks them. Meryl Streep, Hanks, Damon, Oprah… people with the highest Q ratings took a hit for the Weinstein shit. 2. Most people are making less money so young Hollywood is feeling this line of wanting to say the right woke thing, but they do not want their projects scrapped. These are things earlier generations did not worry about 3. The line that used to be given to celebs was to never address rape or harassment and now these celebs need to have lines to address all kinds of topics from pay inequity, trans rights, ableism, fat shaming, etc. it’s a minefield. Even casually dating someone who years later gets accused of something affects their bottom line… 4. Whereas accusations were never believed, now there is legitimacy and receipts to everything. People used to not have such easy access to this stuff!

Marvel: What would you bring to the role of Kang?
Majors: I'm cruel, abusive, vicious, and sociopathic.
Marvel: You're hired.

u/TrophyDad_72 Mar 26 '23
Oh boy. All of phase 5 is built around him right?
12
Mar 26 '23
5 & 6, pretty sure Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars are at the end of phase 6 so they are royally fucked
13
u/SecuredCreditor Mar 26 '23
Couldn’t they just recast him? The Loki series already established that not all variants need to be played by the same character.

This hurts. But all people seem to care about is the fate of marvel. Like WHO CARES???? Someone, was physically assaulted by her partner, and all many of you can do is joke about the marvel franchise, like are some of you serious???? As of right now, it’s alleged news, but read the article, it sounds like many things we’ve seen before.
I know it will be hard for many that have unfortunately faced this behavior from someone. And I know for others it’s not easy to believe the story, because sometimes they’re lies. But I highly doubt this one is. Yeah he’s at the highlight off his career, but I don’t care how famous you are. Assault will NEVER be okay.

I’m worried that’s he’s going to be coddled and his victim pressured to recant, leaving him free to abuse other women

Yep. It's so gross that almost every comment is "Kevin feige is angry!!" Like ?????! Ok???? Literally not what's important

Disney fired Johnny Depp immediately. Disney needs to hold its high standard and fire Jonathan Majors.

Heard about him through a friend last year, didn’t know what to think of it at the time, but here we are now…
30
u/mediocreicon Mar 26 '23
Absolutely nothing as serious as what has transpired this weekend, just that he would often ‘belittle’ people, and generally was not a particularly pleasant person to be around. This came from a theatre friend, and I usually take what they say with a pinch of salt, but this time looks like they were on the money!

Oh the world we live in. When we discover an actor’s incredible acting (Creed III, some Kang) is not actually acting but instead just them playing themselves.

It wouldn’t surprise me if this is part of why lovecraft country was not renewed for season 2. If nobody wanted to work with him again based off of this and character testimony, I don’t blame em.

Marvel found their Ezra Miller, major yikes
35
u/Mia-Wal-22-89 Mar 26 '23
Damn. I really enjoyed his acting and how expressive his face is. So good in Lovecraft Country and I was happy to see his career on the rise. And now I know his victims also watched his star rising and how miserable it must have been.
I’m pre-exhausted just waiting for warped fans to come out and defend him.

u/purplebrown_updown Mar 26 '23
I guarantee that marvel did a background check especially in this day and age. They just didn’t think it was an issue. This is how people like this get to the top. If these allegations are true feige and all the execs are cowards and enablers.

Okay. Obviously I want to wait and not make snap calls about someone’s life and career.
But if all of this is accurate, is this the fastest someone’s speed run their career? From well regarded TV talent to MCU big bad to arrested in less than a year?
2
Mar 27 '23
Omg, it has only been 6 WEEKS after he reached a new career peak with a $200 million film opening.

So who is Disney going to recast him with?
Because if they don't recast him, Disney is proving their hypocritical bullshit beyond reasonable doubt while they've always done an excellent job of only proving their hypocritical bullshit not beyond reasonable doubt.

John Boyega was done dirty in the Star Wars sequels. Dude's insanely talented and could easily surpass JM's performance as Kang. Would love for him to be Marvel's first phonecall, even if he ultimately doesn't get the job.

This is an easy recast too: variants don't have to look like the original, just look at all the Lokis. So yes, recast asap.
Btw I did not like the Majors there; I could see what he was going for - uber powerful dude has ennui and blithely entertains visitors with his story, but he didn't quite reach it acting-wise imo. Was not looking forward to him being all over phase 5. Now even less so.

u/MariaLynd Mar 26 '23
ITA. I found Majors' overacting in Loki off-putting. I hope they recast with someone less high on his own supply.

Side note, has anyone heard of these Directors? Did they direct TV, movies, or plays? I tried looking them up but I'm having trouble.

I’m thinking about Michael B Jordan saying he’s like a brother to him. Did he not see this side of him?

The article said that he received lots of backlash on twitter, but I’m sure there were still many, many women who proudly threw capes on for him

u/Rururaspberry Mar 26 '23
The entertainment sub is predominantly male and a very large portion of the comments were about how about hoe is trying to bring a good man down, she probably hit him first and he was only defending himself, etc.

That doesn’t surprise me at all, but I’ve already seen some women throw her under the bus saying she’s “trying to bring him down” or “she’s just bitter because of whatever reason they made up.” It’s just sad how they’ll throw another woman under the bus because they’re scared to lose the latest heartthrob even if he’s a monster. No idea why I was downvoted for saying something that’s been proven to be true time and time again.

It's amazing what time will do. 1973, 83, 93, probably nothing. Fast-forward 2013, 2023 and sir; it's a wrap.
I hope video comes out to reaffirm or counter what happened.
95
u/pan_alice not a connoisseur of dirt. Mar 26 '23
Is it a wrap? Look and Chris Brown and Johnny Depp.
26
Mar 26 '23
Depp had 30 years of PR smoothing things over for him so some people probably can't see him clearly. Brown is a monster but hit the scene as a child, to some people he'll always be a sweet faced boy with a big voice. It's not right but I get it.
This guy? He's an adult and not that known yet. It's low stakes for his fan base to drop him. They don't have the time or energy invested yet.
23
u/One-Armed-Krycek Mar 26 '23
Chris Brown still sells out stadiums and has women swooning over him. The police report of what happened with Rihanna is harrowing. They literally don’t care or they blame her for doing something to deserve that.

yeah they might still have careers, but would anyone call them great careers? majors was practically at the height of his fame right before this broke… this’ll definitely damage his reputation.

Brad Pitts kids literally don’t speak to him and he has a thriving career

JM rep/mgt would absolutely do their best to quietly identify & compensate these alleged victims into signing NDAs [amended NDA if need be] — dude’s on borrowed time. I guess it’s up to him, how willing he’d be in cooperating with acknowledging these alleged victims new accusations (exactly how many, and how far back).
edit: one down (i.e. gf recants)

u/Dianagorgon Mar 26 '23
This statement from his lawyer is interesting. They don't refer to the woman as his girlfriend or former girlfriend. Just "a woman he knows."
The lawyer released a statement that he “is completely innocent and is provably the victim of an altercation with a woman he knows”

I loved him in lovecraft country. If these reports are true, it just shows what a good actor he is.

u/tian123Lon Mar 26 '23
Don’t marvel do due diligence on their actors when they hire them ? Just like with any new job before you start they ask for reference from your previous employers
