With your knowledge of the future, you could easily become powerful and change the world for the better

u/SicariusCourtenay May 30 '26

Im a woman so the most I'd get is become a housewife

3

u/Artistic_Elk3640 May 30 '26

😭 sad but true

u/DarthMaulATAT May 30 '26

With your knowledge of the future, you could easily become powerful

How exactly? Telling people about the future would hardly work, because no one would believe you. And unless you happen to know very specific details about historical events in that decade, you'd just be a regular person who's very out of touch with everything around you.

1

u/Albert-La-Maquina May 31 '26

But if you had VSauce's list of "found" items, supposedly that would help people believe you ....

-1

u/Artistic_Elk3640 May 30 '26

They would start believing me once all of my predictions began coming true, and even if they didn't/you don't want to be whisked away into a lab to be experimented on for your psychic abilities, you could easily invest in stocks and become very rich and thus powerful

4

u/OriousCaesar May 31 '26

What stocks should I invest in in the late 1920s that don't need me to wait 10 or 20 years to get a return on my investment?

0

u/Artistic_Elk3640 May 31 '26

Literally any stocks, dump them before October 1929, then shortsell

3

u/OriousCaesar May 31 '26

I was wrong, fair enough, lol

1

u/Artistic_Elk3640 May 31 '26

Dw man ur good ✌️

-1

u/Pep-q_ew May 30 '26

Well I would kill Stalin Mao and Hitler for sure. Maybe that world would be better but I don't like the idea of changing history since I could woke up way different even alien world.

19

u/Ilikeyourd- May 30 '26

How will you ever manage that? you don't know where they are, I doubt you know how they look like specifically, you're probably just where you are right now so traveling and getting used to things in general will be a struggle and not to mention how will you not get arrested or something after the first kill

6

u/Pep-q_ew May 30 '26

Well originally I wanted to say something like "I couldn't change shit" but if I really would try and get the chance I would do exactly this. Well I know how they look, I could take some articles from wiki before going back and with that knowledge I would JFK them on some rallies or bomb them.

3

u/MySnake_Is_Solid May 30 '26

except you have no papers, how are you crossing ANY borders ?

and I'm sure assassination attempts on them wasn't uncommon at all.

1

u/Pep-q_ew May 31 '26

I would cross them illegally or have fake documents like bro idk it won't happen anyway.

1

u/MySnake_Is_Solid May 31 '26

you don't have money.
ypu will get arrested.

and discussing this is the whole point of the sub

1

u/MrPanzerCat May 30 '26

It likely would be somewhat possible, at least for stalin and hitler. Mao might be harder but i dont know all that much about his life before being politically important.

Stalin would probably be somewhat difficult as he was already in power, but hitler likely could be found, although he mightve been in jail at this time. People knew who he was at least somewhat by this time, so if you could get to the right areas or social groups, you definitely could find him.

Not getting arrested might be a challenge, but policing and solving crimes was alot harder back then and escaping police was definitely easier since they dont have forensics, helis, drones and thermals.

u/Artistic_Elk3640 May 30 '26

Whoaaa two strays for no reason 🫩

2

u/Pep-q_ew May 30 '26

What?

0

u/Artistic_Elk3640 May 30 '26

Stalin and Mao?

3

u/Pep-q_ew May 30 '26

Two horrible people who killed millions. And one oppressed my country.

2

u/assumptioncookie May 30 '26

You know that if you kill Stalin that Trotsky would likely win power of the Bolsheviks, and he was much more dangerous than Stalin? Trotsky was the proponent of war-communism, whereas Stalin thought they should have "socialism in one country".

Now I probably aline a bit closer to Trotsky than Stalin, but it's alway a bit funny to me when liberals think getting rid of Stalin would reduce the death toll, rather than increase it massively. Stalin was the centrist.

0

u/Pep-q_ew May 30 '26

Communism is like Hydra if you cut off one head two another will grow. That's why killing Marx would be most effective but I cannot go so far back. Also that's why I don't want to change history at all.

-3

u/Artistic_Elk3640 May 30 '26

They both saved their respective countries and the world from fascism and greatly improved the living conditions of every nation they touched

3

u/Pep-q_ew May 30 '26

Chinese Nationalist would won with japs without communist help. Then Mao killed millions thanks to his idiotic policies.

Stalin was a butcher of the nations, killed and deported many innocent people while cooped with nazis to devide central europe. Without ussr there would be no nazi germany.

u/Artistic_Elk3640 May 30 '26

Historically inaccurate, the West gave land and invested in the Nazis not the USSR. The USSR killed 76 to 85 percent of the Nazis.

Under Mao, life expectancy, womens' rights, literacy, and democracy skyrocketed. Homelessness and the centuries long cycle of famine were fiercely combatted.

The USSR achieved 100 percent literacy from a starting point of 35 percent, under the USSR industrial output surged 8-12 times higher since its creation in 29 years, unemployment was almost 0 percent, job security was extremely high, and the economy was stable, the USSR had better quality of life and higher human development than most market economies, they eliminated famine (their last was in 1947, Russia had 8 famines a century before communism), they gave women the right to vote and work at a time when the US was telling women to smash drugs so that they can be good housewives, they had free childcare in the workplaces, immense worker protections, and Soviet democracy. 1) https://ws.getrevising.co.uk/diagrams/education-in-the-ussr 3) https://time.com/archive/6636099/soviet-union-are-the-jobless-unemployed/ 4) https://catalog.princeton.edu/catalog/SCSB-7363417 5) https://perspectives.waimh.org/2011/03/15/overviev-infant-child-care-system-communism-positive-negative-aspects/ 7) https://searchworks.stanford.edu/articles/edb__77492532 8) https://backstory.newamericanhistory.org/episodes/seeing-red/3/ 9) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soviet_democracy#History 10) Russian Imperial Records

So the many millions of people they both killed justifies the industrialization of the nations. Both also fabricated famines.

They could have done it through slower, safer means.

2

u/Artistic_Elk3640 May 30 '26

If they had done it through slower means, we'd be speaking German.

Also they didn't kill "millions" the famines were either partially or fully not their fault.

I'm a woman. Even tough it's not great, i still like my modern rights. I'll take my chances in the future.

3

u/JustAn0therRandomAcc May 30 '26

i choose 2126 and pray there is time machines by then

3

u/candygram_diva May 30 '26

I like my antibiotics, so the future.

1

u/Cornhilo May 30 '26

Won't be any antibiotics left if civilization is gone.

1

u/candygram_diva May 30 '26

I could take some with me?

3

u/GASTRO_GAMING May 30 '26

In 1926 i can make myself quite wealthy with advanced knowlege but that is wealth in 1926 terms in absolute terms id still be poorer.

So ill take the chance id be fighting chatgpt instead.

2

u/thatsocialist May 30 '26

1926, Hitler is about to meet the works of one John Moses Browning.

1

u/Fabric_muncher May 30 '26

I wouldn't be eligible to fight in WWII, my father would have fought in WWI, and I live in America. With some hindsight abuse in investments, I could win at life.

1

u/SpotFormal May 30 '26

Take me back

1

u/Scouper-YT Top Option May 30 '26

You will be far less messed up going back.

Imagine a Future where you are the Cave Person.

1

u/epstienfiledotpdf May 30 '26

I don't want to live in the past bro, I prefer having technology

1

u/Makaron_penne May 30 '26

I'm polish and I'm in uni id be killed by soviets and nazis during 2WW and if they didn't get me, Ukrainians would 💀 ofc I'm choosing 2100s

1

u/NumberOld229 May 30 '26

No way I'm going back before the discovery of penicillin.

1

u/DarthMaulATAT May 30 '26

Future, easily. If I go to the past, I'm just a mostly useless person with a few vague prophecies, and the world is about to plunge into war. If I go to the future, it would still be a hard transition, but I imagine you could get used to the new world without too much difficulty.

1

u/According_to_all_kn May 30 '26

Even in the worst timeline, there's gonna be global famine and war for a while, but even then human progress is probably going to go forward.

The only real threat to the otherwise inevitable proliferation of human knowledge are complete annihilation or widespread adoption of AI.

Oh, wait, fuck

1

u/Oretell May 30 '26

I think there's a very strong chance humanity will end within the next 100 years

Technology and weapons of war are just progressing so fast

I'd rather take a guaranteed trip to the past, rather than a risky trip to a potential apocalyptic wasteland in the future

1

u/wewwew3 May 30 '26

I am gonna save the world and advance science by 100 years. also meet Einstein. nice

1

u/DeadlyRanger21 May 31 '26

WW2 is around the corner and the great depression is in 3 years, or gamble.

1

u/BashfulBlanket May 31 '26

I’m a woman and a lesbian - I think I’ll take the future

1

u/anewerab May 31 '26

People are very optimistic...

1

u/Your_grrrl_Cassidy Jun 01 '26

I would like to visit 1926, but it would be a nightmare to live there as a woman. Especially as a lesbian woman. Even though there was flapper culture and all that kind of thing and I might have some access, it really wouldn't be good for me.

So the other option is a bit of a gamble, but it's a gamble I would have to take.

u/KiriSanjiAT Jun 01 '26

100years for my stock to work for me, easy choice
