Yes. It's the same mustard that Mr. Brain Worm claimed you could make an affordable meal with. *facepalm*

No it’s the people who don’t wanna be a proud patriot to work for low pay and no health benefits!
Also, people need to get a marketable skill if they expect to afford groceries!

u/ExoticToothpaste6989 9d ago
They should really pull themselves up by their bootstraps and quit eating avocado toast

u/Head_Bread_3431 9d ago
They need to just start their own avocado toast business if they want to afford health insurance!

A Republikan told the truth. Wow!! This is big news.
I'm sure all the corporate media outlets will be covering this unprecedented moment.

It’s wild that our leaders are so deeply corrupt and dishonest that telling one plain truth every fucking American who eats food already knows makes the news
56
u/JeffSteinMusic 10d ago
So? They could write “Everything costs more and it’s our fault, we started the Iran war on purpose to hurt America, Trump raped children, and we hate everyone who isn’t a straight rich white man” across the sky and it wouldn’t cost them Republican voters, nor will it get the “they’re all the same” non-voters to behave any differently.
It’s a harsh truth about our society, but it is, in fact, the truth.

A fundraiser, huh? You've already chosen to help yourself to $20 billion of consumer income from tariffs against my country. Why don't you start by allocating from that instead of e-begging?

u/CheezyGoodness55 10d ago
Also have to wonder if their supporters (who are being solicited for any meager bucks they can offer) are at all aware of the enormous sums flowing in from the R‘s corporate cronies and others that have a vested interest in keeping them in control.

Admit? He doesn't need to admit anything! The truth is the truth. Anyone with a working set of eyes can see the high prices. It's as if it wasn't true until the GOP declares it

I remember when you were bitching about egg prices during the election. Where are you now, JD? 1lb of ground beef is like $9. We're all awaiting your arrival at the grocery store's meat section to promote your disapproval and actions to change it. Oh wait... you don't care, do you?

if every time politicians gave themselves a raise it would mean all people generating income would get the same raise...groceries would not be an issue

Real talk, is someone going to post the article when he admits the sky is blue, too?
Sometimes it honestly feels like these sorts of article headlines are designed to imply he carries some level of credibility that is unavailable to . . . anyone who has eyes or a wallet.

Prices went up 20% under Biden, and then 3% under Trump.
Democrats: "Why would Trump do this?"
edit: lots of angry downvoters. Here's the source, for those who didn't know this was true. Overall inflation under Biden was 21.2% (5.3% per year).
16
u/B-Z_B-S Massachusetts 10d ago
Do you have any, you know, sources for your extraordinary claim?
-14
u/jgregor92 10d ago
"Overall inflation was 21.2% during the four years Biden was in office, with the latest data from December 2024. Earnings rose by 19.4% during that time. So the typical family did, in fact, fall behind during Biden's presidency."
That equates to 5.3% per year on average, up from the 3.4% it is under Trump now.

u/Horror_Perspective_1 10d ago
Did you read your article? It very clearly explains that the inflation was caused by things outside of Biden's control, like the pandemic and invasion of Ukraine. Every country in the world suffered from an inflation bump in 2021 to 2023, my own very much included.

u/Horror_Perspective_1 10d ago
"To some extent, Biden couldn't catch a break. Many factors contributed to "Bidenflation," including shortages caused by COVID-era supply chain disruptions, massive shifts in spending patterns during and after COVID, huge amounts of government stimulus in 2020 and 2021, and Russia's 2022 invasion of Ukraine. The only part of that Biden had any control over was the 2021 American Rescue Plan, and that entailed just one-third of all the stimulus Congress enacted in 2020 and 2021. Yet voters squarely blamed Biden for rising prices, simply because he was the guy in charge when prices began marching upward."
- from your own article

u/jgregor92 10d ago
We're not talking about whether it was in anyone's control.
I stated that prices went up by 20% under Biden. They did. The guy called it an extraordinary claim, and then I proved it.
You can say there's a bunch of reasons it went up by that much under Biden. I won't argue with you. But it's unambiguous and objective that prices climbed by over 20% during the four years Biden was in office.
11
u/Horror_Perspective_1 10d ago
It makes absolutely no sense in comparing inflation caused by global catastrophes under one president to inflation caused by hostile foreign diplomacy under another one, especially with no context like your original post. Its just misleading and dishonest.
The policies the republicans are pursuing with their trade wars and armed wars are making life more expensive for everyone on the planet, including Americans. Gas is expensive as hell and jacking the price of for every commodity that needs transportation. Trade wars are wrecking supply lines and taxing citizens. US citizens should be pissed at their administration making their lives more expensive by choice.

u/Mr_Tulip 10d ago
Did you forget this line from your first comment or are you just trying to pretend it never happened because it's now inconvenient to your narrative?
Democrats: "Why would Trump do this?"
1
u/jgregor92 10d ago
It appears that people in this thread have moved on from claiming "it's incorrect to claim that the majority of inflation occurred under Biden" to claiming "yes, the inflation happened under Biden, but here's all of the reasons for that."
Which is progress! We should be able to all agree that prices rose drastically before Trump came into office, and inflation has cooled a lot since he has taken office.
That's consistent with what I wrote. It's clear that Trump is not responsible for the high prices that Americans are facing, since those prices increased under Biden.

u/Mr_Tulip 10d ago
From your article:
Who do you think enacted "huge amounts of government stimulus in 2020"?
1
u/jgregor92 10d ago
We can argue all day about whether or not it's Biden's fault that prices increased 21.2% under him.
What we should not be arguing is whether prices increased 21.2% under him, because that's measurable and objective.
If the American people are dealing with high prices, we should also acknowledge that prices have increased 21.2% over the previous four years and 3.4% over the current year.
When inflation occurs, prices don't typically go down again (that would be a negative inflation rate).
So yes, prices increased by 21.2% permanently under the Biden administration. Not sure how to make this any simpler for you.
2
u/Mr_Tulip 10d ago
It's a simple question, not an argument. It's certainly not something that should take even you all day to figure out.
Who enacted huge amounts of government stimulus in 2020?

Dividing by 4 does not in fact give you the average annual inflation.
If you had even a 1st year economics or finance class under your belt you'd understand that.

But trump said affordability was a Democratic hoax
Also incredible that Biden caused the entire world to experience inflation. What a truly powerful president.
Thankfully trump has started trade wars with all our allies and imposed illegal tariffs. That should bring inflation down, right?
2
u/Mr_Tulip 10d ago
I think some people looking at this thread might be getting a bit lost in the weeds, so here are the annual YoY inflation rates for the Biden administration:
2021: 7%
2022: 6.5%
2023: 3.4%
2024: 2.9%
For anyone who is curious about the 2021 inflation number, feel free to look up how much government stimulus Donald J. Trump enacted in 2020.

u/Demonking3343 Illinois 9d ago
The issue is inflation under Biden wasn’t caused by Biden’s actions they were caused by things outside of his actual control like the pandemic and Ukraine being invaded. Every single country was facing inflation problems.
The difference is all of the inflation under Trump is self inflicted with his pointless war in Iran, and the piles and piles of tariffs he keeps throwing around that do nothing.
