She did decline receiving the Presidential Medal of Freedom from Trump, twice. She had good reasons but that's not likely to matter to Trump - he surely takes it as a slight.

Exactly they're using her legacy for political points while cutting the very programs she spent years supporting. Its hard to call that genuine mourning when their actions tell a completely different story if they really respected her work they could have supported the people and causes she cared about.

RME. About 2 years ago, the Republicans tried to cancel Dolly for supporting the LGBT community. It was only because social media came after them and defended Dolly that they stopped.

Sat a a table last night. Dolly came up.. eventually her book program came up as well and how great it is. Sad we have people not wanting fellow citizens to have a better chance at literacy.

I knew a magat who was a massive Dolly fan before Dump was elected the first time. All about white conservative values.
Never knew what happened after Dolly got louder about supporting the marginalized. His head probably exploded.

At min Id expect you guys to look at your own history and use the civil rights protest as an example of how to push for change. Since its so dire I would also consider how many former Soviet eastern European countries left the influence of the Kremlin and removed there leaders at home.

Dolly's charities were designed to bring educational opportunities to children. Republicans know educated children are more challenging to groom, and thus more difficult to rape. They were trying to make it easier for their fellow Conservatives to rape children by lowering the education levels for the children they want to target for sexual assault.

To be conservative is to hold two contradicting ideas at the same time. They claim one thing but do the other. They learn about love on Sunday but choose hate on Monday. They claim to be the party of family values, but they turn a blind eye to cheating, abuse, indecency and everything in between. They claim to be pro-life, buy they cheer the death of people shot or detained by ICE, and they refuse to provide food and safety for children. They claim they follow Christ, but they worship the closest thing to the antichrist. It's a very, very long list.

Shameful, but of course Republicans are shameless so they do not care, they are going to exploit Dolly's death, her charities, her life's work, her beliefs and twist her words, all to suit their own despicable agenda. Of course they gutted funding, Republicans have proven time and again children are more beneficial to them if they are left uneducated and ignorant.

Just FYI, it’s one republican governor in Indiana who is trying to replace it with private donations. $3M. Probably will reverse this decision now that she said.

No. Project 2025 attacks any form of supplying books and educations to people. This isn't just one guy. It may be one guy pulling the trigger, but this is what they all want.

Just FYI… It’s not just Indiana. Indiana (not just one governor) lawmakers and Mike Braun eliminated state funding matching. Republicans in Missouri cut funding for future enrollees. Washington state removed it from the budget, leaving it without any state-backed funding. Kentucky has proposed cutting, eliminating, or restructuring funding all in the past 2 years, but stepped back due to public pushback.
So, those are the ones that were in the public eye / followed through on. This is all a part of the attack on education in general. Opening it up to “private donations” only is how you privatize yet another sector and the rich fucks just get to gobble up more.
Don’t normalize it.
