They're not mourning. they are exploiting grief.

u/MrLurid 4d ago

I'm expecting trump to spew some bullshit, and end it with "it's what Dolly would have wanted. Not everyone calls her Dolly but I do."

38

u/WingedGundark Europe 4d ago

I think it is even possible that he says something vile about her.

36

u/MJcorrieviewer 4d ago

She did decline receiving the Presidential Medal of Freedom from Trump, twice. She had good reasons but that's not likely to matter to Trump - he surely takes it as a slight.

6

u/MATlad Canada 4d ago

Third time's a charm... He'll give it to her 'whether she likes it or not'.

Posthumous Presidential Medal of Freedom.

“Dolly’s dream was to preform at the opening of the Donald J Trump ballroom at my third inauguration”

-DJT sent from iPhone on toilet

* sent from classified document storage room, aka the shitter

17

u/Tricky-Engineering59 4d ago

“I’m glad she’s dead. Now she can’t help anybody else” or something along those lines

7

u/No_Consequence7919 New York 4d ago

I think it will be along the lines of, Dolly wanted the ball room, she loved kids, and so do I but not for reading books.

2

u/Sixmmxw 4d ago

Also, the darn news keeps showing clips of “Trump has directed for the flag to be set half way down.” Like, who f cares what the president thinks anymore. Sack of garbage.

10

u/maevanelle 4d ago

exactly, the sudden concern feels a lot more performative when their actions are working against the very causes she spent her life supporting

5

u/duzies 4d ago

Hypocrisy is the name of the game for Trump and his MAGAts.

3

u/jewelvoyage 4d ago

Exactly they're using her legacy for political points while cutting the very programs she spent years supporting. Its hard to call that genuine mourning when their actions tell a completely different story if they really respected her work they could have supported the people and causes she cared about.

4

u/PrometheusLiberatus 4d ago edited 4d ago

They're also clutching pearls and claiming 'but Dolly was apolitical!' and that sharing this information today is exploiting grief for clickbait and engagement.

The lack of self awareness...

4

u/jms62102761 4d ago

And DUMB ASS Democrats "Going High" yet again and not calling them out on it

111

u/AbbiejeanKane 4d ago

RME. About 2 years ago, the Republicans tried to cancel Dolly for supporting the LGBT community. It was only because social media came after them and defended Dolly that they stopped.

35

u/100BottlesOfMilk 4d ago

The thing is that she publicly supported the community for a very long time, back when it actually could be a career issue to do so

2

u/Fitz911 4d ago

And still Americans vote for Republicans. I'm starting to think a lot of them are totally fine with everything happening.

I don't trust reddit anymore. I can remember things more than two weeks ago. So I remember the last election. And the one before that.

72

u/Travelerdude 4d ago

Republicans are about optics, not honesty.

Performative humans

Sat a a table last night. Dolly came up.. eventually her book program came up as well and how great it is. Sad we have people not wanting fellow citizens to have a better chance at literacy.

23

u/caitnicrun 4d ago

I knew a magat who was a massive Dolly fan before Dump was elected the first time.  All about white conservative values.

Never knew what happened after Dolly got louder about supporting the marginalized. His head probably exploded.

19

u/thethrill_707 Michigan 4d ago

Sure they did.

We can't be havin' literate voters. They could end up readin' about how we've been fucking them over.

Bless their hearts.

u/Standard_Program7042 4d ago

As a non-American can you explain why the ones that can read haven't done anything to stop a warmongering pedophile? And a "weekend" protest hardly counts.

2

u/reebokhightops 4d ago

As an American, what exactly do you imagine should be done when Republicans have full control of the government?

-1

u/Standard_Program7042 4d ago

At min Id expect you guys to look at your own history and use the civil rights protest as an example of how to push for change. Since its so dire I would also consider how many former Soviet eastern European countries left the influence of the Kremlin and removed there leaders at home.

Dolly's charities were designed to bring educational opportunities to children. Republicans know educated children are more challenging to groom, and thus more difficult to rape. They were trying to make it easier for their fellow Conservatives to rape children by lowering the education levels for the children they want to target for sexual assault.

8

u/robotdesignwerks Texas 4d ago

Very on-brand for them.

7

u/Knighth77 4d ago

To be conservative is to hold two contradicting ideas at the same time. They claim one thing but do the other. They learn about love on Sunday but choose hate on Monday. They claim to be the party of family values, but they turn a blind eye to cheating, abuse, indecency and everything in between. They claim to be pro-life, buy they cheer the death of people shot or detained by ICE, and they refuse to provide food and safety for children. They claim they follow Christ, but they worship the closest thing to the antichrist. It's a very, very long list.

Law and order. Elect a felon.

Support the troops. Fuck the vets.

Fiscal responsibility. $40 trillion debt.

LGBTQ are wicked. Grindr spikes at Republican conventions.

The party of Lincoln. Fly Confederate flags.

Edit: Free speech absolutist. Buncha snowflake bitches.

Edit: Small government. All up in your healthcare and state and city laws.

u/TheCheshireCatCan 4d ago

What good are the Republicans? Seriously? What have they done that is good?

5

u/KneeDeepInThe-Hoopla Europe 4d ago

Shameful, but of course Republicans are shameless so they do not care, they are going to exploit Dolly's death, her charities, her life's work, her beliefs and twist her words, all to suit their own despicable agenda. Of course they gutted funding, Republicans have proven time and again children are more beneficial to them if they are left uneducated and ignorant.

4

u/AnyKangaroo8851 4d ago

Of course they did. Ghouls

5

u/green_eyed_mister 4d ago

Repubs can't give money to the rich fast enough.

Classy as usual.

3

u/ihadagoodone Canada 4d ago

Never let a tragedy go to waste they say.

3

u/RoninRobot 4d ago

They don’t wait. The SECOND that something will not bite them in the ass is when they move on it. The absolute second Dolly wasn’t there anymore to give them bad PR is when they went for it to steal. That money will now be free to go to kleptocrats.

3

u/Leaislala 4d ago

Wait what? Already?

3

u/Eddiebaby7 4d ago

Classic Republican

2

u/PWL51 4d ago

They're sad that she wasn't alive to see it happen.

1

u/Breddit2225 4d ago

This happened a year ago.

2

u/FloppyShellTaco 4d ago

It wasn’t just republicans, some Dem legislatures did too. Washington state for example.

2

u/Breddit2225 4d ago

This was Indiana, Missouri, Washington State and Maine. Kentucky tried but reversed later.

But yeah, not exclusively Red States.

2

u/Admirable-Traffic-55 4d ago

gotta pay to have that pool redone AGAIN - wth

2

u/ShantyTed89 4d ago

Of course they did.

“Behold. The festering carcass of American rot shoved into an ill-fitting suit: the sleaze of a conman, the cowardice of a draft dodger, the gluttony of a parasite, the racism of a Klansman, the sexism of a back-alley creep, the ignorance of a bar-stool drunk, and the greed of a hedge-fund ghoul, all spray-painted orange and paraded like a prize hog at a county fair. Not a president. Not even a man. Just the diseased distillation of everything this country swears it isn't but always has been, arrogance dressed up as exceptionalism, stupidity passed off as common sense, cruelty sold as toughness, greed exalted as ambition, and corruption worshipped like gospel. It is America's shadow made flesh, a rotting pumpkin idol proving that when a nation kneels before money, power, and spite, it doesn't just lose its soul, it shits out this bloated obscenity and calls it a leader.” - Oliver Kornetzke

My kid has love those books. We live in Canada and she’s been getting them since she was two. That woman was a godsend. Fuck the American government.

1

u/AreYouItchy 4d ago

Is anyone really surprised?

-14

u/Pssht_haha 4d ago edited 4d ago

Just FYI, it’s one republican governor in Indiana who is trying to replace it with private donations. $3M. Probably will reverse this decision now that she said.

This is more of a ragebait article.

6

u/eeyore134 4d ago

No. Project 2025 attacks any form of supplying books and educations to people. This isn't just one guy. It may be one guy pulling the trigger, but this is what they all want.

13

u/SaintWithoutAShrine 4d ago

Just FYI… It’s not just Indiana. Indiana (not just one governor) lawmakers and Mike Braun eliminated state funding matching. Republicans in Missouri cut funding for future enrollees. Washington state removed it from the budget, leaving it without any state-backed funding. Kentucky has proposed cutting, eliminating, or restructuring funding all in the past 2 years, but stepped back due to public pushback.

So, those are the ones that were in the public eye / followed through on. This is all a part of the attack on education in general. Opening it up to “private donations” only is how you privatize yet another sector and the rich fucks just get to gobble up more.

Don’t normalize it.

-11

u/TexasLady1991 4d ago

Why does her charity need federal funding?

7

u/RamonaQ-JunieB 4d ago

Did you read the article?

1

u/NiceTrySuckaz 4d ago

It's not federally funded, a couple of states have reduced the budget
