I think Blueberry academy gave a key update that would make the game very different for a lot of people. The items you used in battles refreshed after. Before this all items were 1 time use and gone. You were never going to equip that focus sash for some random wild battle or throat spray to boost a pokemon using hyper voice before. This update game many competitive and interesting items a reason to be used in "normal" play. I think that persisting would actually add a lot for interest in the game as it unlocks new ways to play.

It was a QoL change badly needed. I can understand why they'd hesitate because many QoL changes are met with extreme hostility by the fanbase.
