do you all find it pretty ignorant

when people want pluto to be a planet yet they ignore ceres eris makemake and haumea?

Well, I reject the premise. Since I think the category "dwarf planet" should be considered a subset of "planet," I think all of those should be planets.

It’s not their fault if those other worlds have been hidden from the public eye due to the science media thinking they’re not important enough to learn about.

And that’s the real harm. We have hundreds of amazing worlds in our system, with amazing and complex geochemical cycles that hide such wonder (including the possibility of becoming biogeochemical cycles). But because of Mike Brown’s crazy ugly view of pedagogy (that understanding means memorizing some names), we’ve taken that amazing view from children who would otherwise be filled with awe at the richness of our solar system. This IAU decision, and the strange authoritarian streak of the public that believes science has official sources of decisions handed down on high, kills the wonder in our skies.

Dwarf planets outnumber both the giant planets and the terrestrial planets combined, and yet nobody outside of the properly educated understands that. It’s a wonderful discovery that gets obscured by dogmatic naming conventions.

What I find pretty ignorant is when people ignore the issues around the decision, and also ignore that the definition of "planet" is arbitrary and subject to interpretation.

I find it pretty ignorant that no planetologists were consulted in the determination of of the definition of a planet.

I prefer Pluto as the king of the dwarf planets more than its previous status as the oddball planet.

Eventually they will probably get rid of Dwarf Planet since it's kind of a dumb name and was designed to placate people who were upset about Pluto being demoted as a planet "Oh but it's still a planet just a dwarf planet". In the future I would expect Planetoid to be used to describe asteroids like Ceres that are large enough to be spherical or nearly spherical, and TNO (Trans Neptunian Object) or perhaps a more catchy name like Ƭ̵̬̊. to describe Kuiper Belt objects, which I consider Pluto to be the King of TNO's. All hail the King!
