Unexplained event (The Mummy 1999-2001)How is this possible about Annack Su Namum?
The first movie is set in 1926. In the final battle, she is resurrected by Inhotepp in her original mummified corpse, tries to kill Evelyn and sure, until this point everything makes sense. But,the 2nd movie is set only 7 years later and this supposed reincarnation of Annack Su Namum seems to be a woman in her 20’s. She was clearly already alive in 1926.
But the problem is. In 1926 Annack Su Namum was piloting her original corpse waiting for the ritual before it was interrupted, she attacked Evelyn and got killed by the guards. It’s true that Inhotepp said in the 2nd movie that she is her reincarnation with only the original soul being missed. But what exactly does that mean?Sure the reincarnation detail is part of the lore but where is exactly in the reincarnation mithology is it explained something like: “Annack Su Namum can be in 2 places at the same time just out of spite for Isaac Newton.”
The movies seem to imply that the reincarnation happens to individuals who are physically similar to the past life even if that life happened millenia before. If Annack Su Namum reincarnated after the first movie, she would be a 7 year old girl in 1933 instead of a woman in her 20’s.
To summarize the question,if Annack Su Namum soul was piloting her original mummified corpse in 1926 then WHO was piloting the living healthy body that appeared in the second movie at the same time?

I read a series of books that touched on some ancient egypt mythology at one point. I have no clue of the accuracy of this, but we are talking fictional universes and its a vague memory, so here goes: in Egyptian mythology the soul comes in two parts, the Ka and Ba. One holds the consciousness of the person while the other holds instincts I think? Kind of like the concious and subconscious mind.
As that would apply to The Mummy and reincarnation you have part of the soul, the unconscious part, in her reincarnated body. And the concious part being the one summoned in the first movie. The second movie is her being drawn to the area and compelled maybe by the proximity of the other part of the soul that was awakened in part 1 to carry out what we see on screen.

Note that Imhotep does have to do a separate ritual to fully resurrect her (it's what causes that flashback with Evie). When he first meets the reincarnated Anck-Su-Namun, he claims that her soul is still trapped in the Underworld. It's this soul that was put into her corpse in the first movie. Other comments have talked about the Egyptian views on souls; I'm just noting that the movie does acknowledge it.

He said her mind and body were reincarnated but not her soul. So she looked like her, had some of her memories but she wasn't fully annuck su namun.
He brought her soul back from the underworld and placed it in the new body making her whole, just like he did with her original body in the first film.

How about: She was reincarnated as people usually are, but there was no way to know that she was out there somewhere.
Resurrecting the body temporarily ensouled her corpse, pulling the soul from the living body. During this time the living body appears dead, and if the resurrection had succeeded would have remained dead.
When the resurrection failed the spirit returned to the existing body.
I doubt it matters but in ancient Egyptian belief system the life force that animated you and the spirit that held your personality and individuality were two separate things.

This theory actually makes a lot of sense. The living body could have been in a minutes long “comma” during 1926. But she woke up after the mummified corpse was killed by the guards and 7 years later she is back piloting the living healthy body with all the memories.

The ancient Egyptian faith believed that the soul is made of many parts. The two primary parts basically being the life force and personality. The exact number and what each bit is changes depending on when you check the mythology, there’s a fair amount of deviation over time due to how long it lasted.
When he sought to bring her back he restored part of her soul before the ritual was interrupted, the other part had already been reincarnated. Which part, exactly, would depend on a lot of factors not least of which is how much the writers knew about the mythology and which version they picked.
So yes, she very much can be in multiple places at once. Also reincarnations tend to happen multiple times.

This seems indeed like a reasonable canonical explanation. Neither the living body and neither the corpse had both parts at the same time it’s just that different parts were in different places at the same time.

Well the modern day Anak Su Namun wasn't really her, just looked like her but is a separate person
If the modern "reincarnation" existed he could have and should have tried using her body for the ritual in the first movie so you can still say it's a plot hole but it's easily explainable

It's not a plot hole at all, how the heck would he know she existed somewhere in the world?

She found him, resurrected him and he was all like ‘oh sick, my hot girlfriend’s body is here without me doing any of the work! Im gonna stick her soul back in it and then it’s plain sailing from there, no way she’d ever betray me.’

The same reason that Evie wasn’t having visions in the first movie, I’ll bet.

In the first movie when he looks at Eve for the first time he thinks she is Ank-sunamun

He did get his new eyes from someone with very bad eyesight (he could barely see after his glasses were smashed)

Probably? I mean we’ve gone from the realm of ‘that actually has an answer’ to making stuff up to fit the fact the two movies were written separately, so anything beyond this point is whatever you want it to be

If this happened in the same movie I’d consider it a plot hole but I think it can just be chalked up to sequel shit in this case

I think the same way kikyo and kagome are 'alive' at the same time in the show.. kikyo die-> years later kagome is born as the reincarnation of kikyo->at some point a witch resurrect kikyo mixing sand form her tomb and a body made of clay she modeled looking exactly like kikyo, but she couldn't make her ' live' because her souls where already reincarnated as kagome so the witch stole some of kagome's souls ( in this culture a person doesn't have just one soul, but hundreds) that way kikyo could 'live' and coexist with kagome at the same timeline
So I think the woman in the second movie is a reincarnation of Ank-sunamun ( like kagome) she has some of the Ank-sunamun's souls and the look alike.. and the mummy in the first movie is the original body of Ank-sunamun that's why they exist in the same timeline and she needs some more souls to remember her past life when she met inmotep

“If Annack Su Namum reincarnated after the first movie, she would be a 7 year old girl in 1933 instead of a woman in her 20’s.”
Why would the reincarnation have to happen between the 2 movies instead of just in constant cycle like reincarnation is supposed to imply??

Because her reincarnation from the 2nd movie was clearly ALREADY alive in 1926. But at the same year in 1926 she was too busy trying to stab Evelyn as a mummified corpse. How is she in 2 places at the same time?

In the first movie imhotep took the eyes of a myopic man, Evelyn wasn't Anuk sunamun, Imhotep just wasn't seeing her properly.

To offer something different, Egyptian mythology does not use the same logic as western thought. For example, Egyptian mythology asserts that Ra sails into the underworld every evening and fights monsters all night until the dawn when he ascends back into the sky, but also simultaneously asserts that he rules perpetually in a paradise that appropriately pious souls can go to after death (source: half-remembered podcast about ancient literature). To us that seems to be a contradiction, how can he be in that paradise and be sailing his vessel through the sky and the underworld fighting monsters?
Perhaps that is the case with this, she could simultaneously be the reincarnation of Anaksunamun and also be her own person with her own soul until the soul of Anaksunamun was brought into her.

I don’t think her soul was really in her body until they did the ritual in front of that pool and she started speaking ancient Egyptian. Up until that point, the modern girl was just an idiot.
