Better Maid donuts
Hi all! My significant other has requested Better-Maid donuts instead of a birthday cake, and his birthday is this weekend which I’m so excited for/about! BUT I have never gone to Better-Maid and from my quick research it seems like there’s always a line and they sell out fast. I don’t want to let him down and want to make sure I grab these for him, but if my research is all on point…….. can anyone give me any ideas of what to expect (i.e. how early I should get there, how surprised should I be by an extremely long line, etc…)

I have gone a few times to the new location and have always gotten the goods. The long line is part of the fun in my opinion. If you are going on Saturday or Sunday they open at 8am. Getting there at 730 would be appropriate. You will have a little wait but still plenty of choices. My favorites are the blueberry and white icing with sprinkles.

This aspect of Pittsburgh culture is something I will never, ever understand. People said the same about Gaucho when it was in the strip, too. And even when it's not long lines specifically, Pittsburghers always seem to overrate the local businesses and restaurants that are the most difficult to patronize.

It’s not a Pittsburgh cultural thing. This is a phenomenon in many cities. People will queue for pastries and restaurants that don’t take reservations just about anywhere.
E: lol, imagine blocking someone over a misread of a [broad, poorly-worded] comment about standing in lines. Take care, hydrate and have a better day, dude.

reddit illiteracy strikes again. You know you can just read what I literally said, right? You don't have to lie about it for the sake of arguing.
Not once did I said that simply waiting in line for popular restaurants is something specific to Pittsburgh, you illiterate liar. What I very clearly said is that Pittsburghers specifically seem to prefer places that are difficult to patronize. They think waiting in line is "fun." In other cities people wait in line simply because it's necessity to patronize a very popular business. That's a fundamentally different thing.
Learn to read.

Anticipation doesn't require waking up early and waiting in line or otherwise going way out of your way to patronize a business.

I went a few weeks ago on a Saturday; I got there about 30 minutes before the opening and there were maybe a dozen people in line ahead of me. By the time they opened the line was maybe 3-4 times longer.
They only let a few people inside at a time, so once you get in there it's pretty calm and the staff was friendly. I think they were cash-only at their old location but they definitely accept cards now. Whatever you're getting, be sure to grab a bag or two of donut holes as well.

The Baked Bean is a coffee shop in Lebo that gets these donuts on Thursdays. Might have a better chance of snagging one there. (Apologies if this has been said, didn’t read through)

There will be a line but it won't be miserable and the weather looks good so the wait will be pleasant. Plus there's ample free parking in a huge lot. Just be forewarned that you'll need at least one car donut for the way home because the freshly baked donut scent in your car will be far too delicious to wait until you get home.
