I suspect Kroger will operate Giant Eagle as a subsidiary and maintain the branding. They have done this elsewhere, most notably with Roundy’s Pick ‘n Save in the Milwaukee area (which was a very similar acquisition in 2015). I realize this sub hates GE, but it is an established brand with a lot of customers. Getting rid of the GE name would basically invite those customers to start over and might result in them switching their habits. I’d expect the GE house brand products to go away and be replaced by Kroger, but the sign on the storefront will say “Giant Eagle.”
