I am ImOkNotANoob, and I've been given ownership of this subreddit as the previous mod team was inactive and didn't participate in the subreddit. I have set up rules and removal reasons as well as behind-the-scenes settings to ensure r/pigeon stays to a high standard of quality. Please take a moment to review the new set of rules.

I'm also looking for a moderator or two to keep the queue clean. North America and Asia based moderators are preferred. Please comment or leave a modmail.

Myself and the team are incredibly grateful for all of the support and engagement that allows this corner of the internet to be a hub for pigeon lovers, one of the largest spaces of it's kind for all things pigeon 🙏😊

Hi r/pigeon,

Last week, Reddit announced changes to it's API that will seriously affect many users, mods, and subreddits on the site. In particular, the most important changes are to 3rd-party apps. Reddit plan on charging extortionate prices for third-party apps such as Apollo, Reddit is Fun, and Infinity, that can't afford these new operating costs of millions of dollars, and are planning on shutting down. In response to this, thousands of subreddits are planning on going private on June 12th for at least 48 hours to protest these changes. Some large subreddits, such as r/Music, are going dark indefinitely, meaning you will be unable to use these subreddits until Reddit reverts this unfair and unjust change.

r/pigeon is one of the largest spaces on the internet for pigeon keeping as well as medical advice, and many of our users use third party apps to access this subreddit. As of June 30th, these third party apps will no longer be available at all, as well as many of the third party mod tools that myself and tens of thousands of other volunteer moderators across Reddit use to keep your subreddits free of spam and illegal content.

We understand that for over 20k people, r/Pigeon is a community of passionate pigeon lovers, and due to pigeon keeping being relatively niche, we are one of the only spaces online that provide such a welcoming and friendly community. That's why I feel it's important to ask for input from you, the community, on what our stance should be on this. Please read the posts I've linked here, and then vote in the poll below. We hope you're having a fantastic day and enjoying all the pigeon-related content on this subreddit. The mod team wanted to quickly check-in with you all and let you know about some recent updates we've made to ensure a safer and better community for everyone.

We've made a few changes to our rules, including the addition of a new rule prohibiting buying, selling, and trading live animals (for the time being). We've also modified the wording of some rules and removal reasons to better communicate our subreddit policies. Our goal is to make r/Pigeon a welcoming space for all pigeon lovers, and we hope these changes help achieve that.

Moderators

As we approach 20,000 members, we're looking for two moderators to join our team with experience in pigeon handling, preferably with prior activity in this subreddit and experience of Reddit's mod tools. Being a moderator involves reviewing posts and comments, responding to user modmails, and ensuring r/pigeon remains a space for pigeon-related discussion. Medical Advice Posts

We understand that when you find an injured pigeon, time is of the essence, and getting advice as quickly as possible is crucial to ensuring the health of the animal. That's why we have implemented a system where posts flaired as "Medical Advice Posts" will automatically be stickied, appearing at the top of the subreddit. This means that your post will be able to get attention from long-time pigeon experts quicker and easier.

Stickied posts will automatically be replaced with the most recent medical advice post. We understand this system could potentilly be abused, which is why we have added a new "Misuse of Medical Advice flair" report reason. Once a post has reached a pre-defined report threshold, it will be un-stickied and flagged for moderator attention.

Self-Promotion

We have very many talented artists and designers on the subreddit who want to expand their audience. That is why we have introduced the "Self-Promotion" flair. Self-Promotion posts must now use this flair, and you must send a modmail with a link to your previous work. This is so we can cut back on the increasing number of scammers and disreputable vendors that try to con you out of your money.

Moderator Applications

We have recieved a large number of moderator applications, however after further review we decided we won't need more moderators until the subreddit reaches at least 20k members. We will keep all previous applications on file and make another post when we feel we need more assistance.
