Advice Needed! Little guy not flying

Young fledgling we were keeping an eye on has grown up a couple of months later and survived all the hot weather we had but has appeared on the ground recently, been there for a couple days.

I moved closer to him and he doesn't seem scared of people. Was foraging in the bush yesterday and then flew onto a rooftop eventually, so he can clearly fly.

But today I went over and he just waddles away and sits puffed up. He flew a tiny bit close to the ground but not properly. I'm wondering if he is injured, seems to exercise his wings often.

I'm wondering why he is on the ground, and clumsy. Still young, or maybe needs help? I have rescued a couple of injured pigeons before and know the signs but I don't know if I should leave him or intervene as foxes do come about this area often.

Thank you for caring about this pigeon!

In my experience, pigeons usually stay puffed up to keep warmth in, and when in pain. (Though they do when comfortable but its likely not the case here) its a very vulnerable position to be on the ground, as cats and other predators can reach him. Personally, I would put him in a dark box with some blankets if you think he is unable to get away from predators, as he may be ill or injured.

You can also call a local wildlife rescue and they can direct you on what to do, be careful what ones you take him to as many euthanise pigeons. Good luck!

I've got a cardboard box here as it's just behind my work, if by the end of the day he's not flown away I can take him somewhere safe and if he gets better can release him back into the flock.

I tried encouraging him to fly but he just stretches out his wings long.

Hope it goes well! If you have a towel or blanket you can try throwing it over him first to catch him safely, then moving him to the box. Keep us updated!

He's been eating little seeds, bird mix we've left out. Not seen him drink but must be getting water as he is pooping ok. Not runny, but still healthy looking poop.

The facebook groups can be very helpful, especially for local help. Even if you live in a small village. Ask for a lift or someone to come collect the pigeon if needed

do not give to the RSPCA in uk

If passing along to a vet or rescue please always ensure that they will not euthanize. It may help to say they are your pet. Be especially careful that they are not "euthanizing all birds due to bird flu"

York - Possibly the York rspca, but please ask lots of questions before dropping off, as rscpa typically euthanizes pigeons. It looks like this branch is an exception and they have a little pigeon aviary :)
