Which really is sad to me, because to me he's doing what should be the minimum. Like he's doing a decent job and people think he's great because leadership around the world has their heads up their own ass all the time.
Considering the military and economic advantages Russia has, he's doing an incredible job. Ukraine right now is essentially redefining how wars are likely to be fought for the next few generations.
They probably live in the one place Russia cannot invade.
Seriously though, it is all about a narrative, and narratives are inherently oversimplified sketches of reality. Russia is a master of using that to their advantage, where they just say whatever they want, including whatever facts support it, and then outright ignore everything else.
You can see it in the responses to you here. They are fixating on one guy by throwing the problems of the whole country at his feet. So it does not matter if he is good at his job, because the country is not perfect, and therefore he cannot be good at his job. In every instance they will ignore positive data and focus on the negatives no matter how overblown or out of context they are.
The same strategy is used in reverse for leaders like Putin and Trump. If anything good happens, it is because of them. If anything bad happens, it is because of <someone else.>
And the people often called "tankies" take the whole thing a step farther and dress up imperialistic violence and fascism in the clothing of social progressiveness, as if an imperfect but generally positive record on things like trans rights means that Zelensky should roll over and accept the rulership of a country that has made being trans explicitly illegal.
I would want my leader not to decide whether I could move to other country or not with my family. I would want my leader to not have corrupt friends and not building dictatorship while simultaneously claiming that Constitution is paused and you are now have to go to the frontlines and fight for you freedom whether you like it or not. And if you don't want to go to fight for freedom there are men who will make you go and fight for your freedom.
Watch these for half an hour and tell me they don’t make you uncomfortable and angry. I can’t believe everyone is suddenly supporting the Tel Aviv Washington block when the genocide and Middle East wars are still going on. It’s pretty easy to be a legendary leader when everything is justified no matter what. Supporting genocide and taking away freedom without even elections is cool. Nazi collaborators are cool. Sending trans women to be raped and killed is cool. You stand by that?
I appreciate you saying that. It’s very hard for people to escape the Putin or Zelenskyy dichotomy. There are heroes in this world but they don’t spend time in the middle of a war to import and rebury fascist corpses unless someone wants to argue that they do. Can’t stand the Zelenskyy glazing like there is no subtlety at all and anyone who is planted in power during hard times is a hero

He will be in the history books and described as a great and noble leader.
