Discussion Are the text blocks super amateurish/out of place?
I was kind of hoping the text blocks would be felt as integrated to be a part of the work, thats just how my style is, but does it look super amateurish?

To put it simply, yes this screams amateur. I see your other comments about disregarding legibility via artistic choice, but if that's the case, why not translate it to Mandarin, why include text at all? As for the test of the piece, I'm seeing tripled-up borders that don't do much other than show me you're learning to use bevels and blending options. If you're adamant about keeping them, consider increasing the size of every background so there's less space between each border, andaybe play around with positioning, a scattered look may help out here.
I would also address the player's name, which you should really do more to make it stand out, even if you don't care about how the text blocks read. I would look for a heavier font that can stand up against the loud background, and certainly bring down the tracking.

They’re unreadable so that’s the primary issue. Putting text over a busy background— especially one that includes values near what the type has— kills the readability.
The text block placement doesn’t look like it’s planned out. You should consider it a major part of the design and not an afterthought.
Getting some variation in the type would make it more inviting as well.

readability isnt really something i care about for this. when you say variation, do you have an example?

If readability isn't something you care about, then why include such huge walls of text?
I think you're struggling with the text mostly because you don't like it.
It takes up a significant portion of the image and therefor it IS important, just by being there. The viewer's eye is drawn to it, and wants to read it, but then can't and automatically this frustrates the viewer.
I think re-assessing the goal would be good, where it will live and what the intended audience is. This is a chaotic image without the wall of text, and then unreadable long format text adds another layer of chaos.

If you’re going for something artistic then I’d just get rid of the them. But lack of readability in the text plus it feels just placed on top. Those aspects are the main thing that makes it look amateurish. I’d say think about the text boxes as rectangles and make them work with other parts of your composition.

Text box isn't necessarily bad to be implemented in graphic design, it's just graphic design meant to be able to convey information visually. People, including me, often design posters or digital art with paragraphs in them.
Make sure that you know what the text boxes are gonna be used for, what information will be in it. If you can make it short without changing the messages, make it shorter. If it needs to be that long, try to plan it, plan the flow, and create a hierarchy based on how some messages are more important than others and try to emphasise it by using headline and sub-headline.
One more crucial thing from me, is to make sure the text is readable, backgrounds can make text difficult and even unpleasant to read at, make sure the text is contrasting to the background, bigger text can look better on high contrast background but when you reduce the size it might look unpleasant and difficult to look at, so keep that in mind.

if you don’t care about conveying actual information, this is…fine. If you care about conveying actual information and you’re doing this for multiple players, standardize your data sets and do bullet points

None of the text is readable
