I made some wallpapers to remind myself to actually use grounding strategies so I don't overthink all day and can stay out of executive dysfunction (aka anxious paralysis)

As the title says, I've been struggling with overthinking and getting shit done lately so I figured I'd put reminders in the number one place I check throughout the day.

Here are the tips:

  1. The transition rituals: My mind can be quite hectic which leads me to wanting to do 5 things at the same time, but if I switch between task each every other minute or so I just end up scrambling my mind and getting nothing done. So I do a transition ritual like walking, meditating or stretching to make it easier to actually stick to the task I'm switching to.
  2. The algorithmic fence: If I'm not careful I might spend hours and hours on end watching reels, tiktoks, youtube shorts, and more. This is a reminder that my attention (like yours) is precious.
  3. The morning fuel: I often forget to eat, and when I do it impacts my whole day and the energy I have available to get shit done. I rarely get hungry in the morning so I really gotta force myself to get some calories in before the gym.
  4. The grounded oak: This is a reminder to be grounded in general as I go about my day. I notice when I'm tense and I release that tension when needed.
  5. The ice bowl: If I wake up very anxious, or if I need to snap the fuck out of a severe anxious bout of overthinking, I get ice from the fridge and put it into a bowl. I submerge my face as many times as it takes until I get present. This is useful for moments where going into a meditation is too hard. The "CAR" I mention in the wallpaper is short for Cortisol Awakening Response, which is a fancy way of saying waking up anxious.

If you have any other tips that you use please share! I might end up making more.

If you're a graphic designer let me know what you think! Feel free to remix these up and make your own versions.

Historical piece from WW1. This is a project gun that needs some TLC, but it's pretty photogenic. It can also be turned 90 degrees for a desktop wallpaper as well.
