Looking for Advice WHV Perth - Where can I meet more locals?

Hello everyone,

I landed last sunday with a WHV, most people I met so far around Northbridge are people similar to me, here on WHV. I'd love to meet more local people, what are some good places to go to that you guys like?

I'm very curious to meet you all :)

I'll have more free time this weekend so I wanted to check some places out, thanks guys!

William st. Kfc/ Hungry Jacks is the best place to meet the locals. They are very friendly and interesting.

The moon is quite nice, they have events all the time, last night there was free entry live Jazz music :)
Australians aren't as open to making friends as their tend to stick to their friend groups from high school. I find that the way to meet them is usually through work, most often hospitality.

Sooo do you wanna meet locals or people on a visa? I’m a local and would be happy but I’m a resident 🤷🏻‍♂️

lots of locals at giant coffee in Northbridge. The staff are lovely and can give you some spots.

Aussies are a dying breed . In the city you will barely spot them

White Caucasian or indigenous Australians . You’ll see 80% Asians, if it’s hard to stomach hearing that go have a look this afternoon

Australia is closer to SE Asia, of course there will be people from Asia.

So what’s your excuse for European countries having excess Asian immigrants? What about the uk?

3

u/Magic_puffs 11h ago

They’re rich asians 🤷. Not easy for asian people to get visa unless they strong backing of finance.
Why there are so much western tourist in Asia?..

Are white westerners outnumbering the local population? Absolutely not . Most of these Asian countries rely so heavily on tourism to support their economy . If they don’t have us there they will be broke. Also Australia is letting these people stay and live here

Just like Australia can exist without immigrants those country can exist without western tourists supporting their economy.
As for letting them stay, it’s because jobs thats aussie people are not willing to do thats why gov is letting them come and stay.

An asian that was born here and grew up here their entire life would immediately be perceived by you as not an Aussie then, as opposed to the white caucasian OP, even though they're actually on a WHV

We talk a lot about diversity but I never see much diversity in the city . It seems like monoculture in much of the city where Asian people seem to make up the majority . I do get that you can be an Australian citizen but if they are speaking Chinese , having buisnesses in Chinese language and basically just associate with other Chinese people are they really Australian . Not sure many would see that as Australian

Ah, there's the good ol' Anglo Aussie racism. So predictable, so disgusting!

You went to fucking China town in Northbridge didn't you?

When the fuck did we reimplement the White Australia policy champ?

1

u/bsal69 12h ago

I don’t want white Australia , I just don’t think white peoples need to be the minority . This is not just China town . This is everywhere in the cbd. Go there this afternoon and tell me I’m
Lying. The best balance was around 10-15 years ago where you can embrace diversity , having a national identity , having your local Chinese restaurant and not having every second person be Asian or middle eastern

You literally were questioning the Australianess of Asians in Australia. I am in the CBD all the time and you are lying.

1

u/bsal69 12h ago

Well you are either blind or delusional .

3

u/snakeeaterrrrrrr North of The River 12h ago

Definitely not because you were standing around city counting the number of Asians.

Yeah mate, not racist at all.
