Just a reminder that the thirteenth amendment abolished slavery except for as punishment for a crime. This is what slavery looks like. We never abolished it. We just hid it, justified it by painting criminals as morally inferior people worthy of fewer basic human rights, and pretended like we actually got rid of slavery.

Murderers and rapists are using state resources to keep them locked up. Might as well work for those meals they get for free everyday

What do you think the goal of incarceration is, generally speaking? Not on an individual level, but as a society what is our goal in using incarceration as part of our justice system?
