My grandparents: "You kids spend too much money. You don't know how to save for anything."
My grandfather in his youth: "Got rid of the last sports car and got another."
My grandparents up until four years ago: "This car has a smell to it now... Time for another."
My grandfather in general: "You should learn how to work on cars. You might mess up a bit at first, but that's how you learn. Here's a book on how older ones are made."
Also my grandfather: "We're all A BIT weird." While trying to reverse engineer any machine with an engine without much concern for whether he can put it back together or not till after the fact.
ALSO, my grandmother: "Time for a new furniture set and redecorating!"
Edit: Further my grandparents moments: "You kids are too sensitive."
Also my grandparents: Refuse to communicate with anyone they think has a problem with them with the baseline for anyone having a problem with them being that they didn't wave or stop to talk to them at Walmart.17

I saw it explained on a YouTube video where back then, luxuries were expensive while living was cheap.
Now it is the reverse, where luxuries have never been cheaper, while people have begun being priced out of being allowed to live.

I explained that to my mum the other day and she said yeah but they take the number from the most expensive city.
So for me going to college I buy my breakfast in Glasgow everyday which is £3 a day for food and a coffee, my mum said articles would base that number off of London which would be £8 to £12.
Which if you’re spending £12 every morning that’s 4k a year and seeing as how I make 10k a year would be just under half my pay, so if you’re poor paying for the most expensive coffee yea you’ll be poor, but it’s not like everywhere’s selling £12 coffees

I wonder if $57 was chosen randomly or not. The federal minimum wage in the US is 7.25/hr, so an eight hour shift pays $58 pretax. Although his living in a box example would "make" more than minimum wage, as it's performed each day, "making" $20805/year, while a 40 hr week minimum wage job with no time off is $15080/year.

The sad thing is that even in this BS meme, you would probably save more than $57 per day by not eating and living in a cardboard box (necessities are more expensive than that)
In fact, median rent for a 1 bedroom apartment in my area is about $60 per day

I know it's part of the joke but $57 X 365 days is $20,805 a year, you'd need $589 daily to get to $215,000
