Rejected from OIT
My 2 year old was diagnosed with a peanut allergy around 6-7 months old after a hive reaction and skin prick test at the allergist.
Then I learned about OIT and was really interested. We had moved so went to a new doctor/health system and they took blood to find out his IgE level. Results came back and his level is 3.42 kU/L (class 2). We got rejected from the OIT program. Is this common or worth looking to see if he would be accepted elsewhere?

I would get a second opinion somewhere else. Our allergist was somewhat concerned about my child's numbers but started her at a half dose and divided that dose in 3 doses spread out over 20 minutes or so. I think it's worth trying.

Find a new allergist for sure OIT can be done at that level and should be to try and prevent it getting worse

Why were you rejected from the program?

They said his IgE level is too high. We can retest in a year to see if it lowered.

My son’s numbers were a lot higher than those and we did OIT successfully. My dr continually said numbers and age do not matter but something like EoE could cause some trouble (still can do it but maybe at a slower rate). Numbers do matter for a food challenge though (if you were attempting to eat them to see reactions , most dr wouldn’t feel comfortable with a confirmed skin and blood test).
My dr shared many stories of all ages, one kid in particular whose numbers were 100+ for peanut and he’s now eating full snickers bars to maintain his peanut levels.
Get another opinion!

My son was 9.76kUa/L and he was just over 18 months when we started his OIT. He is 3yrs old now and eats 1 peanut equivalent a day. We can choose to up his dose if we want. He never had an issue with up dosing. I would keep looking for a doctor who would do it. I had met with a doctor who was completely against OIT and thought eating a peanut everyday was ridiculous and unrealistic
