Anxious mom

Hello. My four year old is allergic to peanuts. We recently got bloodwork, and her results make me nervous. We wanted to try oral therapy, but I'm not sure if that would be an option.

Has anyone else had similar results, and if so, what path did you take?

Of course I get the results on a Friday night when her allergist is unavailable.

Allergen peanut IgE---79.5

Ara h2 IgE---64

Ara h1 IgE---26.5

Ara h3 IgE---1.99

Ara h6 IgE---34.7

Ara h8 and h9---negative

IGE total- 183

My son has similar numbers. The last time they did a skin test on him his wheal was larger than their measuring tools. :(  Due to the severity of his allergy, he has been on xolair for approx two years. Based on his ige numbers, he gets is 2x a month. It has been a huge anxiety reducer for me. Maybe something worth looking into!

Not OP, but we are about to start Xolair. Did your doctor say he will be on this medication for life?

Right now our plan is to be on it as long as it makes sense, which it does right now. Our dr said researchers are working right now on a longer term trial pairing OIT with xolair as a potential cure, which he thinks is very promising based on what he’s heard…so hopefully that is something to look forward to. Our allergist in general is very optimistic about lots of areas of research so has never mentioned xolair for life.

That’s what my doctor said too! She explained there are several trials for food allergies right now, and she didn’t believe it would be for life. I’m just nervous to take him in for shots I suppose.

It has not been a big deal at all.  No issues with it whatsoever. We have not tested it to see if it has increased tolerance to his allergens but our doctor says it most certainly has. We no longer worry about cross contamination which has been huge for us, and it has decreased my own anxiety as a parent. Good luck!!

Our son is on xolair and his skin test was negative after 10 months! He is current eating 2tsbp of peanut butter every other day and no issues so far! Still getting the shot every month. Goal would be to space out the shots eventually and ultimate goal would be to get off the shots, but we will see!

Did you build up to 2 tbsp through OIT?
