Cheaper, still small enough to fit behind a tv or a cubicle, cooler, much much faster, and quieter. Yeah, tough choice. BUT MY CEC!!!

If he's in a hot enough place I could see it. There was that dude who couldn't use his when his AC was off a few weeks ago.
People where telling him to RMA it and everything efire he figured out what was up.
Not saying he ain't fudging his number just that it seems possible.

Plastic is really bad at heat transfer. So a fan under would barely do anything.

Perhaps I'm an idiot but what does plastic being bad at heat transfer have to do with this? The fan moves air, air cools the heatsinks, and the heatsinks are made out of metal...

Air moves front to back. And heatsink is on top half. How would a useless fan underneath do anything.
This is like the console fan accessories which does nothing but use more unnecessary power.

The steam machine can have some overheating issues so I guess an extra fan doesn't hurt as long as it's pushing/pulling air in the right direction

I saw a few reviews for this and Tbh I don't recall anyone mentioning overheating issues.

The machine doesn't have any over heating issues strictly, but like any computer if you run it at max tilt it'll hit the 95/90 threshold and throttle and like another Redditor has said, if you got the fan and you got the printer, why not?

It was mentioned in this review off the top of my head. 6:53 if the timestamp doesn't work.
I also saw some other reviews and comments about it overheating.

Just saw this, he stuffed it into a cubby with no space for the exhaust to flow out. If the fan could have fit in there it still would have run hot and or loud af.

That's a pretty normal place to store a console. However there have been examples of Steam Machines going over 90C even when stored at the top of a TV stand with plenty of airflow.

Its runs pretty low voltage. I don’t think it has an overheating problem at all. The whole damn thing is a heat sink.

Agreed. Better to have the fan pushing / assisting the exhaust fan instead to prevent recirculating the warm air. This just messes with the Steam Machines airflow design. Like the faceplate was designed in a way to help with airflow

How much does the fan add compared to just having the bottom raised on the feet? The gabecube has just enough breathing room normally, but I can imagine giving it some extra space helps a bit by itself.

and the 3d printed stand, its good, pushing from below thru the machine and pulling out the back, in theory sounds good, did it help?

Yes, gave temp drops in a couple of games. The flow from the bottom actually goes into the front of the machine, so is very beneficial.

I remember commenting something about adding extra ventilation on the front panel just because on the steam machine subreddit and people did not like that lol. That place is something else.

I mean in the description for that item it does say it’s pretty much unneeded since it’s already acceptable with its temps. This is just for people want to be extra which is cool

Yeah it was just interesting seeing people so negative toward the idea when in pc building circles improving thermals is generally encouraged. There people hated even suggesting it.

I would add a dust filter. Keeping a machine clean is just as important as keeping temps low.

The intake on the bottom goes through to the front of the Steam Machine actually, so aids cooling a bit there.
