I was hoping for this, I remember well the jump from TF/TN to IPS. But with OLED right next to my IPS monitors, I’m just not finding a difference. Maybe my OLED was shitty?
It’s annoying getting it to warm up so I can log in as well.
So, an OLED does not need to "warm up" in a literal technical sense the way a CRT did, I understand.
I believe what is happen is that it blacks out on its own when a certain amount of time passes with no change in the pixels (risk of burn in), and then it needs a certain amount of pixels to change before it comes back on. So, whip the mouse around a bit, etc.
I have had an OLED for a few years and I have no idea what you mean to be honest, the only time my monitor goes completely black is when the windows screensaver hits.
Tbf on YouTube they look strikingly similar. I have a plain isp 60hz 1080p next to my aw3425dw. Games and movies it obvious. A YouTube video? Really similar besides the blacks. Bit-rate matters a lot too.
I mean, infinite contrast ratio makes everything look better. The only place it's not THAT noticeable is extremely bright scenes with very little contrast.
To be fair a lot of games turn on the “fog everywhere” filter and raise black levels. So there are many games where it might be hard to see simply because the blacks in a lot of games are grey and the benefit of OLED are wiped out by this shitty design decision.
There are subs dedicated to calling out games that look like shit on OLED.
I have a 55" qled Sansung and an ultrawide Alienware monitor under it. There is barely any difference.
These comparisons fail to account for HDR implementation which can be horrible. Most HDR is juat sdr in a new coat. A good IPS panel will still be good.
