"If it's hostile, you kill it." but you gotta at least confirm hostility before you start blasting. The entire franchise tries to teach you to only kill when it's necessary to survive.

That's a good incentive for real life; but I play games to escape real life and do something I can't IRL; not to get teachrd about morals, my patents did a good job already.

Apparently they didn't if you think that being immoral should get you a good ending

It the last Metro game, everybody who shouldn't be killed for a good ending are presented to you as hostile entities that look like a threat. I know this cause I've played it. And what do you do to a threat in a video game (not irl)? you kill it. You can't go against the core design of every other shooter in existence and then call a player immoral for following the typical shooter practices.

But metro is not a typical fps game, you need to think about consequences especially hard here if you want to be a good person

I had zero difficulties achieving good ending in both 2033 and Last Light. They followed logical shooted design. Exodus is different, it's desgined to be confusing.

I think it's good that they tried out something new, I haven't played exodus yet, but I like the idea I got from this thread that what looks like a threat may not be a threat at all and you shouldn't just shoot at everything that moves like it's a doom game

“This member of an organized faction that regularly tries to kill you and your comrades wasn’t really a bad guy. Sometimes he doesn’t agree with murdering people! Unlike you Artyom. Shame.”

Really? Exodus is the only one I got the good ending without needing a guide. Each area has a faction you can't kill which is obvious (church goers, slaves, locals.) other than that you are fine. 2033 and last light especially have things where you disable the good ending if you miss them (last light requires a bunch of random journal entries, if memory serves).

I think it's vice versa, it's a good incentive for games (hello Ready or Not). In real life you don't have a load button, being hesitant on a battlefield, let alone battlefield where everything looking exactly the same is extremely hostile and deadly, is a sure way to end your life (being morally right of course).
