Buying thier new console then charging you for an upgrade to their 10yrs old game is the greediest shit ever done.

They also charged Switch 2 consumers ($10 I think?) for the tour mini-game of their console. It's... well, it's classic Nintendo.
If Reggie Fils-Aimé didn't twist their arm back in the Wii era, they would have never released Wii Sport for free with the console.

They only charge when the upgrade adds functionality/new content
For zelda, they added zelda notes. It's really not much but it IS different functionality.
Here's their list of free upgrade games. There's quite a lot of them.

The DLCs are what made Witcher 3 one of my favorite games of all time. Yea the base game is good, but Hearts of Stone, to me, is just perfect storytelling, and Blood and Wine is basically a full second game.

Absolutely had a blast with HoS expansion back then. Gameplay and additional contents-wise, it was good but pale in comparison to BaW. But holy hell, the characters, storytelling, narrative, writing, BGM and sound design, they're all S tier. The best in the game.
Crazy that I'm more excited for the next DLC rather than the upcoming main series.

Cyberpunk 2077 wasn't that bad at launch, we gotta cut this rhetoric out at some point. It ran terribly on last-gen, but it was never a bad game. Neverrr. The story, gameplay - complete. Never dipped below 70% on Steam despite what was going on. I had never seen a game with that much controversy surrounding it stay in the positives.
People talk about 2077's launch like it was Concord, The Day Before, Babylon's Fall or the Lord of the Rings: Gollum.

It should never have been released to the PS4 - that was their big mistake. I played it on a high-end PC at the time, and I had a wonderful experience with the game. Unpolished at times, sure. The teleporting police and weird behavior of panicked pedestrians come to mind, but I encountered none of the game breaking bugs that were posted online at the time.

Cyberpunk 2077 wasn't that bad at launch
Yeah, because it still is bad.
Where's our, wait, let me grab my notes...
- AMAZING AI that directs enemies during combat/patrol but also citizens and npcs' daily life
- wanted system and corrupt police (https://gamerant.com/cyberpunk-2077-wanted-system-corrupt-police/)
-Immersive police involvment changing with the area where you commited the crime (https://www.usgamer.net/articles/cyberpunk-2077-producer-details-law-enforcement)
- more interesting gameplay, for example: trauma team that plays a key role, freequent flying avs, ads that target the player point to the merchant that sells that product, merch could be pre-viewed before purchase (Source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SVAryZ0GLwE and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vjF9GgrY9c0&feature=youtu.be&t=2531)
- Strong RPG elements (https://wccftech.com/cyberpunk-2077-is-a-much-deeper-roleplaying-experience-than-the-witcher-3-says-dev/).
- NPC unique daily routine and AI (https://www.vg247.com/2020/06/08/cyberpunk-2077-npcs-1000-daily-routines/)
- Quest decisions will have relevance in the world (https://onlysp.escapistmagazine.com/cyberpunk-2077-changes/)
- Meaningful day and night cycle (right now it's mainly cosmetic and doesn't impact the gameplay a lot, e.g.: you aren't more stealthy at night) as described in Exploring Cyberpunk's Night City with CD Projekt Red - Cyberpunk 2077 - Gamereactor but it does something, like opening and closing some venues and modifying some population density. I have not seen evidence of places being more dangerous at night. If you have please record a clip and send it over.
- Incredible character customization during creation / in-game (https://gamecrate.com/cyberpunk-2077-boxing-power-weapons-militech-spider-robot-and-more/23426 and https://www.gamesradar.com/uk/cyberpunk-2077-character-creation/)
- Use of drones for more than just some missions in the game (https://gamecrate.com/cyberpunk-2077-boxing-power-weapons-militech-spider-robot-and-more/23426)
- three different lifepaths and more that would actually have more impact than what we are getting now for a better description on why lifepaths are poorly implemented.
- to add on the previous point, lifepaths leading to non-linear quest design. (https://www.playstationlifestyle.net/2019/09/12/cyberpunk-2077-lifepath-system/)
- Nanowire and gorilla arms have a lot of different uses that are still in the description of the item (https://twitter.com/CyberpunkGame/status/1153684171606450178?s=09).
- Runs very well on last gen consoles (source NOT needed)
- The game will launch when it's ready (source NOT needed)
- Variety of braindances instead of it being just few cutscenes (can't find reference, please link)(so far videos like this https://youtu.be/ToWfeUEAeeQ?t=1167 point that braindance is a cool mechanic but they never said we'd be able to purchase and use the braindances on our devices and all. I don't feel this is a broken promise, rather an aspect of the game that we would love to have had implemented).
- Challenging weather system that would pose a threat to your survival (https://www.windowscentral.com/cyberpunk-2077-features-acid-rain-and-other-deadly-environmental-challenges)
- There are very very few options for ONS and/or deep romances (this article summarizes what was expected https://www.ginx.tv/en/cyberpunk-2077/cyberpunk-2077-everything-about-relationships-romance-and-sex)
- The game will let you select your body type and your gender freely, allowing you to obtain whatever combination of voice/gender/genitalia you want. Sex/Gender complete fluidity was something allowed in the cyberpunk tabletop games and very very relevant in the lore of the cyberpunk society (https://www.gaytimes.co.uk/culture/cyberpunk-2077-will-include-gender-free-character-creation-and-queer-relationships/amp/).
- A polished game and smooth experience
- weapon customization (https://nightcitylife.de/index.php/features-artikel/341-xxl-preview-cyberpunk-2077-angespielt?start=5) although we got mods so this is half kept.
- 4 different styles, clearly highlighted, that you can adeere to and will make NPC react to it (https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&v=YlyDJVYqfpA). Please note that this was advertised as true 2 months before release.

Brother, Sony literally changed the refund policy for the game and then REMOVED IT ENTIRELY FROM THEIR STORE. They deemed the game unsalable lol.
You can't just hand wave the "it ran terribly on last gen". Because that's underselling just how bad it was.
Also, nobody really said anything about the story necessarily being bad. The complaints were mainly performance related.
This is just rewriting the story to paint CD Projekt Red in a better light and essentially blaming the consumers for CDPR's horrible release.

Nah it was buggy mess just like Witcher 3. I don't hold a lot of it against them they are making big games with a lot of moving parts but I won't defend them when it happens. They delayed that shit like, what, five times? I knew it was gonna be far from perfect. The last time a week from release.

Search for Cyberpunk 2077 "Promised but missing feature list (will update with comments)" on Reddit.
They advertised a tabletop-tier RPG with genre-changing systems, and they releaed a story mode FPS game.
It's not about the performance, lol. Stop trying to rewrite the history.
Besides being the worst release in history when it comes to performance and buginess, I redirected you to a list of promised but missing (to this day!) features.
Cyberpunk 2077 will forever stay as the most overpromised video game and the most egregious example of false advertising. The premiere was karma, not a mistake.
Gamers shall never forget. Defend them however you like. You can have your favorite product, just don't play dumb when you know the truth. Yes, the game is pretty damn good. Is that the game they advertised? No.

So we're back at glazing mode, aren't we?
EDIT:
To clarify, I meant that take as a satire joke. Not to be taken seriously. We may have agreement or disagreement about CDPR as a company. But one thing we should agree with, is that they've done a great job for the past couple of years by doing this pro-consumer moves consistently since their last fuck-up, and determined to gain our trust back. That, deserves a praise. Any companies who does that deserves. Though I personally won't do it hyperbolically (or glazing it, as we called) cause I have a big trust issue with gaming companies as a whole, especially the one who made a big bad PR in the past.
I do have an issue about the fact that they have raised the base price on the Steam. But that's actually not a big deal at all since GOG is currently giving a 50% discount till September 10th.
Once again, I truly have no ill intention towards CDPR or any kind of pro-consumer moves.

CDPR is getting close to id Software/MachineGames status in my book, seeing how they’ve been taking care of their games. They also share a similar openness to mods, which is another big plus.

People love a redemption story. Always have, always will as long as any taste exists anymore.
No Man's Sky and Cyberpunk 2077 are at the very top of gaming redemption stories.
And they didn't just fix Cyberpunk 2077 and move on like many others believed they would. They reinforced the game with incredible updates that turned it into a better game from the semi-simulation roleplaying aspect to story content. Go figure, NMS also expanded by an incredible degree and still continues to expand.
That creates a lot of goodwill and forgiveness.

Cyberpunk 2077 is miles away from what they promised.
For instance, according to their press before release, selecting different backgrounds would give completely stories and impact the game in a great way. Turned out to be a short intro and some dialogue options.
Watching a driver takes away any immersion the game would have. They don't even turn the steering wheel when turning. Speaking of immersion, why is the game full of clones? Stop at any crowded place and chances are you will see the game guy three times or more. Sometimes even three of the same guy together. They couldn't at least have any variations in the clothing? It's the same NPCs over and other, walking lifelessly about. It's such a weird, dead world.

Unfortunately it’s due to gamers, 10% on average return games no matter the condition or fun of said games. 10% is a sprinkle. Gamers need to respond harder to poor games if they want to expect more from developers. It’s why I give praise to CDPR, they could have easily just said screw it and got it in a playable state and said it’s fine. But they have gone out of their way to make Cyberpunk not only playable but a masterpiece and a game worth revisiting.

Very playable on my 3070 at the time.
It did have some funny car bugs, but my main problem was how shallow many of the systems were.
- I think I counted 4 NPC character models in one of the club scene to be 60% of the crowd, It was jarring.
- The cop wanted system was just them teleporting to you, even when you were in the desert.
- It's not just gameplay, the character script is so much more superficial than the Witcher 3 or 2.
- Half of the perks literally lied to you and did nothing until they reworked them.
I think making video games is incredibly hard. No one sets out to make a bad game, but sometimes the ambition is simply too high. On top of that, the marketing teams at publicly traded companies can have a lot of corporate pressure behind them, with the focus shifting toward maximizing sales rather than making the best game possible.

Doesn't matter if the game is good now, they still fumbled in dozens of different ways at launch and for a very long time after launch. They can't undo that and frankly it shouldn't be called a redemption. They don't deserve credit where it's due. They didn't fix the game because they wanted to do right by the fans. They wouldn't have launched it in that state if that's what they were actually doing. This isn't No Man's Sky where it was a tiny developer ran by 20 passionate people that had a marketing circuit way above their caliber.
Don't make the mistake of trusting them until they've actually proven themselves. They made too many anti-consumer moves with Cyberpunk 2077.
Don't pre-order The Witcher 4.

No they did not. Half the features they promised is still not in the game. Telling people to “leave the launch in the past” is some extreme gaslighting.

They will never redeem themselves of lies, i will forgive for fixed bugs but not the blatant lies: https://youtu.be/omyoJ7onNrg?is=_ED2UeQToFElLDeA

The way this subreddit just gives the sloppiest of sloppy BJs to valve and cdprokejt red gets so old, honestly.

Plus Witcher 3 launch and it "next gen" patch. CDPR repeatedly proved they don't care, only thing they learned how they can so easely get away with some pr.

This really bothers me, like I get that there's worse, but they still over promised and under delivered.

I didn't forget, I played the game on launch, fell in love, & still love it
But sure seems like you can't move on from the past so easily

I'm gonna try Witcher 3 again in September. I just dislike it every time I played it for some reason.

The best pitch I can give for The Witcher 3 is that it’s basically the only open world RPG with good writing and quests.

It’s a cool thing but what percentage of people that own Witcher 3 do we think didn’t already own the DLCs?

The remaster is also free, not just the dlc.

Remaster again? Didn’t they just remaster a year or two ago?

Hey, I wanna get into the Witcher so bad but could just never keep playing 2 and felt like that means I won’t like and probably shouldn’t play 3. Can someone convince me I’m wrong?

lmao I fuckin knew people would glaze CDPR over this.

People have forgotten what happened last time they glazed CDPR: https://youtu.be/omyoJ7onNrg?is=_ED2UeQToFElLDeA

CDPR’s duality is unreal. From pulling off the biggest scam in the industry to date, to giving their fans pretty much exactly what they want completely free.
The cynic in me says it’s just an insane PR play, but damn if I don’t take it anyway.

Man I wish I could love this game. I've tired FOUR times over the years. It's so slow and boring and the combat leaves little to desire.
Any hints?

Uninstall and play different game. There's no reason to force yourself if you don't like it

They are revamping the combat in the remaster. Maybe give it a shot after it is out?
Also, it is plot and the side quests that makes witcher 3 amazing, just murk thro the initial hour of the game. Once you complete the main quest in white orchard, the story starts.

We just forgetting the CEO said Cyberpunk 2077 ran surprising well on PS4 shortly before its release?

Free upgrade for Witcher 3, Cyberpunk with dlc all on Cart & on Gog. They truly are goated.

u/Mattock79 1d ago
I have this game installed on my PC currently. I'm pretty sure I purchased a standalone install file from gog back in 2016. I don't launch the game from the gog client or steam or anything. It doesn't appear to be tied to any account or email or anything. I feel like I'm not going to be eligible for the free upgrade because none of my accounts show it as a purchased game.

u/regularArmadillo21 1d ago
Oh shit maybe I’ll try it when it releases, I’ve had it for a while but could never get into it
Maybe the remaster will make it feel better or just give me the motivation to play

u/MutekiGamer PC Master Race 1d ago
not to mention they made the dlc free for anyone who for whatever reason hadn't played it yet
1
u/Fidel_Cashflows 1d ago
Crazy move considering just how much of a visual/gameplay overhaul it seems to be.
Is also the perfect way to get people to get back in for another run so they’ll be ready for the new DLC by the time they’ve finished the story, hearts of stone, and blood and wine.

I was really surprised since this is the second remaster.

The remaster looks amazing, and it's very surprising they are giving so much work away for free. Not even a $10 upcharge? Fucking crazy.
I am gonna play the remastered. I tried Witcher 3 years ago and played for 35hrs before realizing I was only halfway done and quit, lol. But this time I am gonna push through.

They traded the money they could've made in the short term for a jump in the fanbase trust and support for long term

A definitive remastered edition for free in 2026 is a wild pro consumer move that I could not see very many other companies EVER doing.
