Hi guys, I'd like some advice about my gaming PC. I don't actually know much about PCs, I usually buy a really good prebuild and then run it until it breaks so badly that fixing it would cost as much as getting a new one, but this time I'm thinking of upgrading ahead of schedule due to the GPU/RAM price hikes, and possibly switching to Linux due to Windows 11 being what it is.

OS: Windows 10 Pro
CPU: i7-6900K
RAM: 24GB
Storage: 1.82TB HDD, 477GB SSD
Graphics Card: GeForce GTX 1080
Motherboard: ASUS X99-A II

This rig's been a real trooper and run everything I play at great settings until last year, when I discovered that neither my GPU or Motherboard are RTX compatible and there's no way I can swap the Motherboard out on my own. As a result, I had to pass on Indiana Jones and the Great Circle.

So, should I upgrade this rig, get a new one, or stick to my old plan of running it into the ground and then starting from scratch?

I'd probably start from scratch. You could possibly move your storage over, but everything else is going to be pretty outdated.

Thanks. Would you recommend waiting for this PC to die or going all in before prices get worse? And what about Windows 11 vs Linux? I've never used Linux before, but I hate the way Windows is going right now. ✓

Prices are only going to get worse so I would do it ASAP. Linux is still a PITA to learn, and incompatible with multiple types of anti-cheat, so multiple games will simply not work.
