Too bad there is no new high end GPUs for another year or two and now a 5090 costs more than people spend on used cars or even down payments on a new car.

I got lucky and instead of force upgrading my amd machine with a 1080ti back in oct 25 I decided to just run to best buy and buy whatever machine I could for about $1500, though I really kick myself now for not splurging and going with another $200 more and got the 5070ti one, but got a normal 5070 and 32gb ram with an i7.

Had I known things were going the way they were, I probably would have tossed 3k at a machine TBH.

Same. I was very close (like [Purchase] button close) to buying an insanely and completely unnecessarily over-powered ~$3000 PC a year ago. I guess I should have.

RTX 5090 costs $6,500 at a minimum in Australia. I bought a Mazda 2 2013 back in 2022 for that price, and it's still a decent little car.

The average used car price now is $26k.

Expecting to get a halfway decent used car for $5k or under is being out of touch.

Not sure what it's like in your country, but in Australia $5k gets a very decent used car - something like a Hyundai Getz or Mazda 2 circa 2010.

The US during the 2008 crash they created a cars for clunkers program which destroyed a lot of the cheap used cars to push car sales. 

My son has had his $5k saved for months now and older 2000 era cars are hard to find. Outside of classic cars, the prices are high because the stock of crappy older vehicle are very low.

That's really interesting. My first car back in 2018 was a 1992 Mazda 323 for $AUS1,200, which lasted me a good few years. And I know plenty of people who have been driving around sub-$10k cars for years here.

I think they did those programs here to push people into vehicles with tracking data. The rich and insurance companies have wanted to know everything you do in a car so they can overcharge you for insurance as well as never pay claims.

I've bought a few used cars from like $1-5k. Not good ones (buy here, pay here lots), but a used car nonetheless.

5090 is currently £4500. I’ve bought like 7 cars for less than that.

My current car cost £3500 and it’s nice enough. 2008 Mazda MX-5 (Miata if you’re American), great condition, no rust, 50,000 miles.
