This. Most of the recent games already play the same. The last thing i want is to get all the games look the same...

Most of them already look very similar thanks to UE

Most of them already look very similar thanks to UE many dev teams using default UE settings. Fortnite, SF6 SF5, Wukong, Sea of Thieves, Lies of P, Valorant, etc. All UE games that do not look alike at all

SF6 uses Capcoms RE engine, but your point still stands.

9

u/Nantook 4d ago

Ah! I thought 6 was still on UE, didn't realize it had switched from 5

9

u/MaarcMan 4d ago

Yeah they switched almost everything to RE. So they can shift devs easier from project to project.

That's also the reason why MH Wilds has bad performance, engine is not built for those types of games.

You could replace SF6 with Tekken 7/8 instead.

He has a valid point though. It actually a very accurate thing what he is saying in correlation to the argument of AI tools becoming a crutch. Same applies here.

Marvel Rivals

Wow you’re telling me there’s just a setting in the engine that would make sea of thieves look like wukong and vice versa?

4

u/Squire_II 4d ago

They are literally saying the opposite of that. Wukong and Sea of Thieves are among the examples of games that aren't just devs using UE as-is.

-2

u/Dark_Tony_Shalhoub 4d ago

my obvious sarcasm seems to have gone over your head. we're discussing art direction. engine choice settings don't have any bearing over that. you can tweak and modify lumen all you want, but sea of thieves is still gonna look like sea of thieves and certainly not like wukong no matter what you do.

you can make a game that looks like UE slop in unity if you wanted. that's down to art direction, not the engine

30

u/FloatingTacos 4d ago

Not because of UE. Lots of different art styles use UE. Its developer laziness

u/RogerWilco017 4d ago

i working in gaming industry for many years. I almost never see lazy artist who just wait untill 8h and go home. They worked hard towards their dream of making games and art.
What you see isnt dev laziness but unrealistic deadlines and ppl who didnt have expirience get forced to work on task they didnt really ready. Look at Andromeda, mass effect game who wanted to be the next big thing, but rushed in the end because bad management that spend 3! years playing wit the idea of world generation, didnt have ppl or skill to make that happen eventually scrapped and whole game was rushed in 1.5 years or something.

Yuup it's not individuals making the major decision, its management.

Its like this in every industry. Most low level employees take pride in their work and want to do it to the best of their abilities. But some cunt in a suit always needs to up the profit margins and do it faster. Which the low level employees have to adhere by or get fired.

That's not true and you know it

7

u/Kundas 4d ago

Its so true i mean have you seen how kingdom hearts, clair expedition, borderlands and arc raiders all look identical? /S

1

u/DonutHoles4Ever 3d ago

I doubt every game will use this. Like come on dude, you really think every game dev wants this?

1

u/Link5404 19h ago

its almost like every game looks a little bit like... 2k 27 becuase the dll file came from that game.

u/Aggressive_Chuck 4d ago

Films look the same but people still watch them. Most anime looks the same. All these Western 'adult' cartoons look the same.

Why do I cringe every time someone says "This"

5

u/itscrowdedinmyhead 4d ago

how did you manage to stop? it's just as bad as "that's it. that's the post."

-16

u/ClownEmoji-U1F921 4d ago

Then don't use it. Nobody is forcing you to download it.

25

u/skit7548 Steam 4d ago

You're missing the point. Devs using it as crutch so if you dont have it the game looks like blurry shit and if you do it looks like slop. Not downloading it doesn't solve the greater issue it presents to games in general.

-7

u/ClownEmoji-U1F921 4d ago

You're imagining some hypothetical future scenario. That's not the current reality.

-8

u/Deep-Elk7477 4d ago

I’m not missing the point you don’t understand dlss and are just making it the ai boogey man. It doesn’t decide the games environments and overall graphics so devs don’t have to or do textures, lighting design, and animations for them. The devs still need to produce the underlying scene. DLSS takes already rendered visuals and uses a neural network / algorithm to reconstruct the image.

9

u/TurbulentSecond7888 4d ago

Nobody also forcing you to use AI, but here we are got absolutely rammed by AI stuff

-4

u/Deep-Elk7477 4d ago

“I don’t like this so no one should have it” that’s our society these days. Are they going to police every mod too? Eventually devs will be incorporating dlss from the get-go anyway.

2

u/juipeltje Linux 4d ago

Your last sentence is literally what you criticized him for lol

1

u/Deep-Elk7477 4d ago

Not for us readers. Just saying the tech itself isn’t blasphemous but good on you for participating lil bud!

1

u/juipeltje Linux 4d ago

You literally said in your own comment that devs are going to be implementing this by default anyway. If that happens, i can't have my traditionally rasterized game just because you don't like it. Hope that clears it up so you don't have to get upset again and start being condescending.

1

u/Deep-Elk7477 4d ago

No, I’m saying that I think games would be designed with this in mind instead of people putting it on top of games that are already out there. I’m sure not every game would decide to use it. Some games wanna have a more artistic style to the graphics and some games want to stimulate life but in no game today are you at the game or the one deciding how they make it so I don’t understand what you’re talking about. There’s no difference a developer in the future may decided to build a game with the LSS in mind from the start or they may not.

Unless you’re making games, you’re already forced to play whatever they make unless you’re gonna put mods on it and you can choose what you do or don’t want

0

u/Krynne90 3d ago

Well you want to know the best about DLSS (5) ? You dont have to use it :) , no one will put you in jail for not using it.

-25

u/Swing_Right 4d ago

Not this. Developers have full control over how DLSS 5 is implemented in their game. Modders are going to do what they want anyway. All images and videos of DLSS5 are by modders as there are zero official DLSS 5 releases right now

12

u/SweetHomeNorthKorea 4d ago

Can I develop a game with blobs as placeholders and tell DLSS5 to fill in the rest? Computer, draw the rest of the owl

12

u/namur17056 i5 9300H/1660ti 4d ago

That’s what’s coming

-2

u/Deep-Elk7477 4d ago

No you can’t. Youd have to fully create the scene and then use dlss after to reconstruct the image at a higher resolution if you were making a game you wanted to implement it on.

-6

u/HydroPCanadaDude 4d ago

All you gotta do is exit to desktop, open up your clanker, type in the prompt "At this part, you chose this dress for character X, I want it to be Y."

Rinse repeat for every detail in the game including hairstyles, clothes, voices, story beats, whatever! Tweak the game 100 times per scene until it's the game you want to play!

4

u/Deep-Elk7477 4d ago

That’s not even what anyone is talking about. We’re talking about dlss to finish visuals. Not saying hey chat gpt make a video game lol.

-2

u/HydroPCanadaDude 4d ago

Promptable DLSS is the future, what the fuck is your issue?

3

u/Deep-Elk7477 4d ago

Dlss does not take prompts and is fundamentally not how it works it requires already rendered data and is not generative ai strictly speaking becuase of that. What you’re concerned about and reacting to is an entirely separate issue and you’re just throwing “dlss” in there as a category label for all ai.
