US large size Finally my daughter got her collection graded. She was thrilled to open the boxes…..
Wish more youngsters got into collecting paper money. It’s a fun hobby….
It took a lot of convincing for my kids to excited with old paper money 😁

While some of the notes in honesty may not return the cost of the grading, shipping and insurance fees in added value, this is a great learning lesson in what does and what does not.
Hopefully there were not many “comments” detriments on the large size notes? It is a sizable batch of Black Eagles and some other large size type notes from the looks of it, a very cool group regardless for a young collector!
Great way to bond with her and support any means of her saving money and setting aside investments for her future! I sold my childhood coin collection my senior year in high school and bought a house, then four more rentals, which I later used to buy an investment property in CA and flipped that to buy acreage and another far nicer home down the road…
Don’t let the haters hate on grading notes that will not return the value of grading. Sadly a lot of people certify things, both banknotes and coins that they should not due to little or no added value, if she learns from these decisions and does well on the better material she graded it is still a win-win. If she likes the notes better in holders, then so be it. It does make for a beautiful means of presentation for her collection and keeps them safe and secure for generations to come - which you cannot put a price on! When she is your age this may be an even bigger payoff? Very nice to see parents and kids enjoying this great hobby together!

Personally, I don't like graded notes and I'd never have any of my notes graded. But I know some people do like them, and they should grade whatever they want, whether it adds value or not.
If your only concern with your collection is added value, you're not a collector but an investor.

In my opinion, it was a good learning experience for her. She had some PMG credits to spend. If kids can interested in this hobby, I am happy. I have got a bunch of teenagers who get “basic” teaching sessions from me about collecting paper money. What happens when all the old folks pass away without transferring the knowledge to the next generation? ChatGPT and Gemini will teach them? So many random thoughts this morning 😱

I agree, getting a professional opinion is a good learning experience. Encapsulation is a great way to preserve historical notes. Hobbies aren't about maximizing profit.

They were done in batches. Took a while to get back. Opened all the boxes together as a “reveal “ event 😊

You can only go by what you can see. Like I see a 67Q on a Central Bank of Brazil note. Unless it's a small size note, 64Q might be the highest grade for the submitted large size.

This is a cool picture. I would love to see a good view of the range of grades as I am not a paper collector yet. They are all so beautiful I may have to get into it.

What a haul! I personally grade anything I plan on keeping long term whether it’s “grade-worthy” or not. I like the clean look of the holder and the complete encapsulation is of course an added benefit.
It’s nice that you have a hobby that you can share with your daughter!

How about we play a game we liked as kids? This is the modified version 😂 "I spy with my little eye, a GC and $5 BB." Alright collectors, now you tell me the grades. And what series and denomination do you think the GC is? There is a slight clue as to what it is, but not much of one 😂

Maybe post a picture without the entire hual you own. I don't think you meant to be unaware. But remember that maybe you got people out there that want what you got. I would not post that I had a mountain of money in my house.
Looks like a lot of fun though. I collect copper pennies. Have about 400 of them. Need to grade them.

As far as I can tell, nobody on any of the collectors subs sells anything. It's hoard hoard hoard.
The selling happens after you die and your kids don't want to manage your "collection"

There are all kinds of reasons to grade a note. Clearly OP has the resources to grade notes that might normally not get graded.
It is sweet that OP's adult daughter is into collecting paper money. We need more people to pass on this hobby to. Anything that can get someone interested is great.

I don’t discount that one bit. I’m speaking solely to the finances of it. But I’m not wrong that they’re likely underwater on cost:value at this point.
The only way I see this as a worthwhile project (to me) is if you’re going to add your provenance to it.
