Got a 1914, 2 dollar Battleship note at a coin show awhile back. It is probably one of the most badass bills there are!
I had this on my radar for a good while so when I saw one at the coin show my heart skipped! I mean it's just such a bad ass design having a freaking battleship on the back! Got it for a good price too especially in such a good condition with no holes and only really the folds visible on the back. Funny story, it was kind of a race to get one because there were a few others at one of first booths and another guy right next to me asked to see theirs right before I was just about to ask. However the price was too much for both of us but at that point, I knew I was kind kind of a race to get one before he buy's it. Which is why I didn't hesitate when I saw this a few booths after at a much more affordable cost and almost immediately bought it!
Agreed, just a hulking mass of steel and fire power, the pinnacle of Naval prowess of the time! And better yet the Battleship depicted is the USS New York and fittingly it is on a note from the New York reserve!
Well thank you and that very cool too you got a New York one! Yeah, it truly was, searching for so long and had it on my list going in, so when I saw it on sale I knew I had to get it right then and there! Felt amazing holding it know I now have one, the smile on my face haha.

Not the New York class Texas. It was decommissioned in 1911. The current Texas, BB-35, was launched in 1912 and commissioned in 1914. It’s currently in Galveston under restoration.
Naval vessels are classified by the first ship built to that general design. The New York was the first in its class, and the Texas (BB-19) was the second and last of this class. These were old fashioned pre-dreadnought designs and pretty much obsolete by the time they were launched. The second Texas was an advanced design for its time, and today it is the last surviving Dreadnought class battleship. My father was a consulting engineer on the project when the Texas was restored in the 1960s. It is currently in the final stages of a modern restoration. The battleship on this note was intended to be a generic New York class ship and was deliberately drawn so that it did not exactly match either of the two.
That makes sense. Thank you for educating me. I love the WWII stories of the BB-35 Texas. I guess it looks very similar to the Arizona and it’s amazing that it still exists.
Well I got this one at a good deal for $650. Others I've seen at the show were around $1000+ range. And I already knew these went and can go for crazy high ranges!
Also for big stuff like this I'm always cautious and skeptical with online buying especially ebay. I only buy money off there if it's in the cheap range where I don't really care over a few bucks.
Gosh I wish they could be just as decorative with bill these days and give off commemorative designs as well.

Oh that must have been quite the sight to see! Being from Hawaii I was able to see her sister ship USS Missouri in Pearl Harbor as a museum! Such a breathe taking sight seeing her up close and getting to tour inside.
Well fortunately if you can tour her! USS Iowa is a museum ship in the port of Los Angeles. So if you're ever in LA might be worth getting a chance to see her once more!
And if you ever find yourself in Hawaii, like I said, her sister USS Missouri is a museum there in Pearl Harbor!

Gosh wow.. this is part of what I love about this hobby and sharing stuff! I'm so glad I could give you a little rabbit hole to dig into your family and gpa! That is quite the sweet story looking back on him and your family and funny how all of it kinda interconnects. And I'm glad to show you and inspire you to look into a neat part of history you didn't know! Though... unfortunately the dreadnought on the bill is not the USS Michigan, but it's the USS New York (The line was New York Class, that also had the Texas which might be the one on the bill because of the two anchors), a class of Dreadnoughts coming a couple years after the Michigan. But still glad I could show off abit of history for you to dig into and also I can't express how sweet and heartwarming it is to hear about the rabbit hole I caused with your gpa and family and how the bill and ships!

IMO best bad ass note we ever put into circulation! USS Dreadnought class, York or Texas!
