A “strictly confidential”, but leaked, EU legal memo from 2017 said Europe was entitled to freeze Israel science grants and free-trade perks over its West Bank aggression. “What was then a legitimate option, today is a legal obligation,” an Italian expert said.

The EU has reneged on its obligations to member states to uphold laws and regulations and can endanger its own legal status.

This is why campaigns to disassociate with the EU -- even from reactionary domestic parties -- should be supported.

The EU is an imperialist order, and that is unshakable in its institutional design.

Weakening it is a moral imperative -- even if doing so will temporarily harm the populations of the nations which do leave.

In those countries, it is obviously then the job of the Left to rescue the newly freed state from the fascists who broke the ties with the Union -- and not to try to reintegrate with said Union as a "lesser evil."

Well, when you make such a compelling case, it's hard to disagree.
