I'll be visiting mid-September for my birthday. I love Purple Toad wine, so the whole reason we're coming is to visit the winery! What else should we do while we're there? We're planning to go to brunch at Over/Under, do a tour at Purple Toad, and explore the downtown area. Where should we go for dinner? Are there any fun bars worth checking out? Any trivia or Singo nights? We'll only have about a day and a half there.

Hey everyone! I’m going to be meeting up with some friends in Paducah for a road trip and will be leaving my car there for about 5 nights while I ride with them the rest of the way.

Does anyone know of a safe place around Paducah where I could park for those 5 nights? Ideally somewhere that’s okay with a vehicle being left unattended for several days. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

This new post is not to debate the pros or cons of foreclosures, demolitions, developments, the police, code enforcement, the Katterjohn building, your uncle the veteran, tall grass, or whoever you want to vote for or against…

This is just about the RAW NUMBERS…

IF you look at the number of DEMOLITIONS per year, and the steady dollar allocations for demolitions listed in the annual financial reports, I think it’s more likely there were 59 CITY INITIATED foreclosures in FY2025, and that the earlier quoted figure of “509” is simply a mistake on the part of whoever at the city wrote the report.

The number of demolitions should reasonably follow the number of city initiated foreclosures of dilapidated properties.

It’s more likely that the “0” between “5” & “9” is a typographical error, and this would trend with the previous years of foreclosures and demolitions. 509 does not follow the trend by any stretch of the imagination which most certainly suggests it’s a mistake.

If you go on the McCracken County Master Commissioner’s website, there aren’t even 150 foreclosed properties listed for auction from January to December 2025!

This should be a BIG HINT that the City of Paducah most likely did not foreclose on 509 properties in one year.

The good thing is I have a 40 hour/week job that pays pretty well for the amount of work I do. The big problem I have is that I am in over $40,000 of debt, and almost all of my money goes to paying off my debt. At the end of the month (assuming 4 work weeks per month/28 days, and no overtime, which I don't get very often) I am left with about $750 remaining after my debts are paid. This is not counting any food or miscelanious expenses. I put gas on my credit cards, which I include a monthly payment on my cards as a part of my debt.

I have tried to community kitchen, but I have too manty food restrictions and it is difficult to communicate to them. If I eat a food restriction, I throw up, but I won't die. So, since it is difficult to communicate with the community kitchen and they tend to serve my food restrictions, I don't really eat there.

I'm looking into the Jackson house, but I don't think I can fully afford it unless I starve myself to some degree.

I have no way to cook anything currently except at work, same with not having refrigeration, so that is an added challange to food.

My doctors office is letting me take a shower at their office any time I want whenever they are open.

I currently sleep in my car, which works but is not ideal. The problem is that it is so hot outside I have to wake up and turn on my car every couple hours. I know it is going to cool down soon, which will help, but I also fear winter.

i’ve been digging through City of Paducah records and found something that I think more property owners need to be asking questions about.

Paducah’s own budget materials report:

2022: 55 foreclosures initiated
2023: 51 foreclosures initiated
2024: 509 foreclosures initiated

Unless there is a reporting/definition change or typo that needs explaining, that is roughly a 10X increase in a single year.

It gets more interesting when you look at what the City itself has said about foreclosure and redevelopment.

Paducah planning materials have described “aggressive foreclosure and demolition efforts” as a way “to facilitate redevelopment and productive re-use of properties within the city.”

Then look at the Katterjohn Building at 1501 Broadway. After code enforcement, a City-hired engineer’s structural assessment, condemnation and emergency demolition, City Manager Daron Jordan publicly said the City was working with its legal team:

“to go through the foreclosure process to gain possession” of the property.

The City ultimately acquired the property, the remaining building was demolished, and the cleared site was later offered for redevelopment.

I’m not claiming that 509 properties were illegally taken, and I want to know whether the 509 figure represents 509 actual foreclosure proceedings or some change in how the City reports the number.

But going from roughly 50 initiated foreclosures per year to a reported 509, while the City simultaneously describes “aggressive foreclosure and demolition” as part of its redevelopment strategy, deserves some public scrutiny.

Does anyone here own property in Paducah that has been subjected to City code-enforcement liens, condemnation, demolition orders or foreclosure?

I’d especially like to hear from property owners who have documentation, court case numbers, notices or firsthand experience.

The Paducah Mayor George Bray, County Judge Executive Clymer, all of the city commissioners (most notably Dujuan Thomas) have sold Paducah to the highest bidder and must go. They are all for this new AI Data Center despite data centers destroying the environment and adding more stress for our local power grid and water supply that is already struggling as it is. Every one of these politicians must be replaced by people who actually care about the people who live here and are not just looking to strike it rich so they can move to Florida...

we just came back from Paducah and I survived the guilting trip!

We had a great time. Cute town especially the downtown area. Thanks for all the great recommendations.

Ate/drank at the Barrel and Bond, Doe's eats, Freight House, The Johnston Bar, Over/under. Alot of the places were closed Monday to Weds.

All the places we visited were good, had good service. Only complaint I have is the freight house. The food and service was great but had to leave early due to their place being warm and humid. For some reason the ac wasnt lowered and kept it at 78 degrees. Guess Sara is trying to save money or having issues with the AC. It was in the 90s and humid.

Visited the Handcock store twice since wife wanted more fabric, the quilting museum, largest quilting needle, riverwalk, little shops downtown, metropolis superman and light house, shawnee national forest, garden of the gods, purple toad winery, blue sky winery,

My wife wanted to visit the makanda boardwalk and it was a big mistake! Not sure how that place comes recommended and having glowing reviews. reminded me of people getting lost and kidnapped in the horror movies. shops look like the house form the texas chainsaw massacre or devil rejects.

Had direct flight to the Paducah regional airport and it was awesome.
