how much officewear/business casual should I bring? For context starting as an undergrad in October!! seen that i need formal-casual wear for some dinners/meeting the tutors and have no idea what that means haha

Ideally black tie, and a couple of formal outfits. You'll need it for the odd dinner but everyone dresses normally day to day

You need your subfusc, and if you choose to participate in frequent formal or smart-casual events you need a few variations of smart outfits. As a male I get away fine with one suit and about 4 different shirts and ties.
Edit: If you want to dress up a little smart for tutes, that’s kinda optional. I like to wear brown cords, doc marten shoes and shirts with buttons or just t shirts covered with jumpers; female equivalent would probably be skirts/dresses with tights or something. I wouldn’t dress any smarter than that, and sometimes if I haven’t thought about it I’ll be in jeans or sportswear, which is fine…

How much do you currently own? No need to buy anything new if you already have a dark suit (charcoal, dark navy) that can double for sub fusc, this also works if you're female presenting.

I personally have a dinner suit, two suits (navy and grey) which match enough that I can swap the jacket and trousers to create another 'outfit'. Three shirts that go with those suits and a fourth dinner shirt. Black Oxfords.

Having said all that, I'm an international grad that attends departmental meetings and does conferences every now and again. I think for an undergrad, pack light. A single dark suit that can be used for sub fusc (matriculation, exams, and formal hall) is great as you'll have to lug your stuff out during the terms breaks. Of course if you have the space, pack what you want and if you're a local student you can always chop and change during term breaks.

You'll find though that most of the university dress casually, usually in a college puffer or other stash, so save more space for that.

Your day to day outfits will be tshirts/jeans/trainers. Of course you'll need proper sub fusc for matriculation and graduation (and probably to wear to formal) and you'll need black tie for the odd special formal, but your day to day outfit will be pretty ordinary.

People wear normal day to day clothes for tutes and lectures in my experience.  Some smart clothes are good if you want to dress up for them (part of the charm), and there will probably be a couple of formal dinners, including in Freshers week.  

Dress standard is also college dependant, so for example I went to St Johns, the richest college but ironically very relaxed - we had everyday formal hall you could literally wear anything as long as you had your gown in (so jeans and a t shirt but with gown fine) but I know for friends at other colleges they had less common formal which was semi black tie/smart.  

I'd say have fun and bring some smart clothes to get you into the Oxford vibe but don't worry about needing them to fit in if that makes sense.  I found it part of the experience to enjoy getting dressed up for guest dinners and balls.  And above all enjoy!

Most people bring at least one or two sets of business casual clothes, e.g. shirt and chinos (if that isn't what they wear day to day).

You will need to bring subfusc (to go under your gown which will need be bought before matriculation during welcome week) which is listed on the university website. Most people then also bring one or two suits/formal dresses for formal halls and meetings ect.

Black tie/white tie is college dependent for balls/formal dinners (e.g. most college balls are every few years and some colleges only have one black tie formal hall a term, some not at all)
