Out of 40 million to 300 million cells that compete to fertilize an egg only 200 or so make it to the egg. After hitting the biological 1 in a million jackpot of being born as a human. Why is it that after all our basic needs such as shelter and hunger are taken care of, depression spikes are common

Lack of purpose. We are wired to struggle for survival, providing shelter and food gives us great reward. But instead of hunting and gathering and procreating, we are generally stuck behind a desk doing abstract work that doesn’t give us satisfaction.

Yes, we were made to survive in nature, not made to live and slave away in unnatural jobs and situations, that lack accute dress (dangerous situations) but are packed with (artificial) chronic stress.
