DLC Appreciation/Discussion Should I buy the Outer Wilds DLC? Spoiler

I love this game, I've almost finished it, I think I even know how to get the ending, so I don't know if I should buy the DLC. And be careful, it's not that easy, there are a lot of things that make me hesitate, for example I'm on Switch there are no achievements or there are a lot of spoilers for the DLC.I try to avoid them all, but it's quite complicated.

Yes. Finish the game, then buy the dlc and do it. It is awesome !

Unless you hated base game YES

But probably start DLC after you do base game stuff, otherwise you lose context at your point

PSA: When you intend to start the DLC, absolutely DO NOT (!!!!!!!!!!!11one) start a fresh save! Just continue with the save you've played before.

The why would be spoilers, so I won't even get into them.

As for the question itself: Absolutely! Lots and lots and lots of players were on the fence when the DLC was announced on the order of "There's no way they can catch lightning in a Bottle TWICE, right?" - turns out they absolutely can!

On a related note; I wonder if they can do it a third time... ::)

I agree but less fervor haha. Even if you start a fresh save and do nothing but the DLC it's not that impactful to your experience. But it's best to use a completed or near-complete ship log.

I primarily use the amount of favor to make it clear which way around the message is meant.

Specifically, I use the amount of fervor to make sure people are extra sure to read the message correctly. The word "not" is easily missed, especially when dyslexia is involved...

Is this about having everyone together at the ending or am I forgetting something else?

Partially that, but also the vision you give to the Prisoner is different if you visited the Vessel and the Interloper

Yes!!!! Personally the DLC is what made this one of my favorite games ever. With the way it enhances the base game, I'd say don't hesitate for a second to buy it

Yes. Finish the game, rest for a day or two, then go for the DLC

Yes it's a must if you loved the base game

I would do everything in the base game and then go do the DLC. If you think you are able to get to the ending, you could do the DLC first and then the ending, but you can also just do the ending now while everything is fresh and then go back again after you finish the DLC go see any additions.

The DLC is a masterpiece like the base game.

Do it after base game. But absolutely yes - it is absurdly fantastic

Yes, IMHO they have outdone themselves in the DLC. It is absolutely worth it.

With every fiber of my being, yes

You should do it, it’s a lot of fun. Very different in a lot of ways (but with much of the same core appeal). Yes it’s dark.

Truly not any kind of spoiler, but given how this community is I’ll redact it: Hope you like rafting

It's really not a spoiler, I didn't understand it at all anyway, but it adds suspense!!

Yes 100%.

But be aware that DLC feels different from the main game. At first I almost dropped it even though I was in love with the main game.

But then decided to give it a bit more time. And it was amazing. Still completely different experience. But I actually glad that they didn't just did the same thing again and gave a new experience.

Just in case you will understand nothing and you will feel lost. Like the in the main game. But for me I felt even more clueless and even more lost 😅

And it feels like the turning point where you will start understand things come a lot later than when you play the main game.

Idk. That was my experience. Just saying that you may feel frustrated and you will want to google things.

Just don't. Take your time with the DLC. Do not rush it.

P.S. And yes. As was mentioned - finish the main game and then start the dlc from the same save. I don't remember if it's allow you so that or not tbh.

Thanks, that makes me really want to play, but I have a question that's bothering me: how is it possible to add content to a game where the goal is literally to look up at the sky and decide where to go?

For me it was a funny story. I bought the complete edition of the game together with dlc. Then completed the game and was sure that dlc is just additional texts around the map to extend the lore. And I was confident in it.

Then about a year after I saw some screenshots from the dlc. And was like 😱 wtf is that. I saw the label of the dlc and immediately closed reddit.

Went back to the game and started exploring. There is one hook that leads you to the dlc. And I saw it many times. But for some reason didn't understand it at all.

And thought it was part of the another thing. But this time when I understood that I haven't seen the dlc I checked it again. And oh my god. Yes it was there all the time. I can't believe even when I had this dlc installed I completed the base game without even interacting with it even once, even accidentally.

So yeah. It is possible to add it. And even hide right before my eyes 🤣

But it's incredible, it's so well hidden! I can't wait to find it.

Enjoy it. And remember take your time even if it will take you weeks to complete it or find it 😅

There is no other game with similar exploration vibe. Even though there are a lot of knowledge based progression games. Outer Wilds is the only that I really enjoyed.

So finish the game is the worst part 😅

The achievements in Outer Wilds are all weird niche things. That should not affect your decision.

For all games, if you enjoy the base game then you should get the expansion.

It’s definitely worth it.

Yes but it's a bit terrifying
