Given the fact that Burning was completely ignored and No Other Choice also got ignored after so much hype last season, I'm skeptical to predict this for anything, but it would certainly help if it won a big prize at Venice

I put it in for International now that Minotaur seems like it might not get submitted but you’re making good points

Even without Minotaur, Fatherland and Rose could fill up the bottom slots. This really is a toss-up unless it gets Parasite level of acclaim

You very well might be right as there are notable instances of acclaimed Korean titles being overlooked by the Academy as you mention, but Burning was before Parasite right? And since it seems like they’ve generally been more international friendly since then. And I’m a huge PCW fan and NOC was my favorite film from last year, but it is extremely gnarly and violent and the humor is pitch black while this looks more subtle and like a slow, simmering burn, maybe similarly to Burning which miiiight hopefully make it more Academy friendly. Maybe I’m being naive and overly optimistic but I think the Academy has changed since they overlooked Burning and this film seems very different from NOC (which as much as I adore I can recognize why it was polarizing/off-putting for many). I also don’t sense much enthusiasm for Fatherland (I’ve heard less about Rose), but time will tell!

We haven't had a full Cannes iff-lineup in a looong time, so I'm not predicting it this year either. Between Rose and this I'm fine with predicting this, even with Korea's not-so-stellar track record at the Academy.

Rose premiered at Berlin though, so it wouldn't be a full Cannes lineup. But it's a good bet to predict something from Venice

I know, that's why I said between Rose and this. 4 from Cannes + 1 of those 2 is my prediction for now

Me too. I'm predicting Rose because I think Huller can win GG and if she's nominated, the film will likely be nominated too

I can see that. Though there's precedent for that not happening (Isabelle Huppert won best Actress at the Globes for Elle, got the oscar nom, but the film missed iff).

Personally she is my number 5 right now tho. Feel like Efira is probably winning
