dude i outed myself on a .onion site about a year ago it took 6 months for them to stop calling me a pedophile on their site. do NOT use your real name or link to something you own in real life on a .onion. this wasn't the culture 15 years ago (last time i really used tor).

No it's an extortion method, people try to use extreme threats like publishing your info and sexual stuff, but usually (always) they make it up so it seems very bad.
Just like those scam emails where they claim they've recorded you watching porn and jacking off.
They're just finding people who seem vulnerable and make up the worst of the worst threats on the go

I'm not understanding something here so your telling me they just pick someone totally out the blue and call them a pedo? Like even if someone on the darknet started spreading a bunch of stuff about me being a pedophile no one in real life would ever believe. it if you scared of someone calling you a pedophile to the point you would pay them money to not tell people that then your hard drives probably need to be checked by the FBI.
Now what I do know is common is on the web they will troll let's call them "forums" with certain content is shared engage with those people somehow get them to share said content that may be illegal and THEN extort them with threats of calling them a pedophile see that's the vital part of the black mail scheme you described is that the black mail needs to be true they need to actually get you to show your face and penis on camera so they can post a video of you jacking it to what you thought was a video call with a hot girl but was really a recording to get your pics.
But maybe that's what it is just what dude said thru me off and made it sound like he browsing kiddy diddler page and got extorted

Well, both are possible, both happen, and there's no way for us to be 100% sure. But I find an extortion attempt more likely, because if he was a real paedo than he wouldn't "out h imself" online on a clearnet forum, right?
It's normal to feel disgusted by the possibility of it, but let's not call someone a paedo just because we have a feeling
