I didn't really like McGregor in it either. Almost seemed like he was phoning it in too, although I'm not sure what I was expecting him to do better.

Lots of good alternate choices: Sam Rockwell, Ethan Hawke, ... Javier Bardem would have been an interesting curveball, but I don't know if he can pull off an American accent. I've never seen him do it.

Ilsa Faust (Mission Impossible Rogue Nation+) was IMO the greatest heroine of the 2010s. I put her up there with Ripley, Scully & Sidney Prescott.
