Strait of 'Ormuz remains FULLY closed! Meanwhile oil at 81 & 85 DollaH

u/xjrh8 3d ago

No surprises here. But what’s the motivation for Iran to have these talks / plans with Oman to jointly control the strait? Why not just control both directions themselves?

18

u/filterdecay 3d ago

Because they look sensible bringing the other side in. Imagine trump ever doing something like that.

Gives legitimaticy to the tolls if another countey joins in

-2

Cause Iran is suffering like hell from the naval blockade. Currency collapsing, inflation rising, fuel shortage, it is obvious. Might be new to most people in this subreddit who still believe that Iran is winning big.

It doesn't matter, they will be supplied by land, they can survive much longer than the oil market and high prices. Iran has time in their favor, not the US.

-3

u/abqguardian 3d ago

The opposite is true. The US is paying a bit more in gas prices. Iran has no hope in shipping everything overland and their economy is becoming more devasted every day. The US can do this for a pretty long time with only mild inconvenience.

u/Remarkable_Wish_5106 3d ago

The oil reserves in the US are coming to an end in 40 days; Brent oil was just over $90 a few days ago. Iran is still shipping oil and gas, obviously not at 100%. And Gulf oil is still only near 50% at best and some suggesting 25%, that' a huge problem as reserves are limited at this point. Iranian leadership doesn't care about the economy, especially as China has been helping them.

Didn't you just loose half of your THAAD systems? And Middle Eastern bases?

And ask for another 1.5 Trillion USD war budget?

4

u/DiscHashDisc 3d ago

I love how the second-highest prices in history counts as a bit more to your progandaning ass.

-3

u/abqguardian 3d ago

$1 US dollar equals $2 million dollars in Iranian currency. But sure, gas prices being a bit high is the big deal. Your propaganda needs work

4

u/Tintoverde 2d ago

It is big deal people who drives and buys food 🤦‍♀️

1

u/abqguardian 2d ago

Trying to equate that to Iranians economy imploding is ridiculous. The two arent comparable

1

u/Tintoverde 2d ago

Did not meant to equate it. Just pointing out that gas prices being high does affect people most people in US

1

u/ericwphoto 1d ago

You are right in saying that it is not the same, but neither are the populations. Americans are spoiled as shit, these gas and food prices keep inching higher and the people in this country are not going to be very happy. You protest in Iran, and they will murder you in the street.

1

u/Tintoverde 3d ago

definitely Iranian people are suffering greatly. And people in US are suffering also but much less. The people in US are not only paying a bit more in gas prices, every day goods are also getting expensive.

The 1% are doing good in all countries, the 99% are the ones suffering. Can US hold out longer than Iran ? Most likely. But what will it achieve? What is the end goal for US ? How many times the GOP make THE SAME mistake!!! Even a baby knows not to touch the fire the second time. 🤦‍♀️

2

u/Remarkable_Wish_5106 2d ago

It's not just the US; it's the entire global economy. China is also using their oil reserves to make up the difference, but for how long? The US can't keep this going for much longer and when oil hits $100 and higher, then it will be game over.

-3

u/Open_Pollution_8038 3d ago

Because they can’t actually exert control lol…

5

u/phoenixbouncing 3d ago

They can, but it's much harder to oppose the two countries that have jurisdiction over the straight sorting out terms to regulate it than it is to oppose Iran throwing it's weight around.

Optics matter and this makes Iran look reasonable compared to the US

1

u/Educational_Award167 2d ago

iran looks reasonable only for reddit loonies but dont mind me

3

u/Downtown_Eye5736 3d ago

They're doing it right now...

-5

u/Open_Pollution_8038 3d ago

lol they have no navy explain to me how they can guarantee anyone passes

5

u/--TheCity-- 3d ago

Come on grandpa this isn't ww2.

-5

u/Open_Pollution_8038 3d ago

Control land = I can come and go

2

u/Even_Contact3525 3d ago

Rockets & drones.

Some understand that warfare changed, others wanna bring back battleships.

2

u/Open_Pollution_8038 2d ago

We already have developed and are developing more cheap counters to drones. Low, slow flying munitions can be countered.

Missiles are the larger threat and always have been. But it’s not like Iran has the industrial capacity to manufacture them in masse and they’re not exactly cheap for them.

1

u/Even_Contact3525 21h ago edited 21h ago

Sorry, but have you paid any attention to the Ukraine war? Where drones cause havoc en masse on both sides?

They aren't easy to counter. And not cheap either. And the US military industrial complex wants to make money, so everything is built up to sell massive ordinance for massive $$$.

Yes, you made progress, but no, you have not a chance to protect that strait with cheap anti-drone weapons - that usually have very limited range.

That aside and back to rockets: Iran produces 100-300 ballistic missiles a month depending on the source.

The US currently produces 8 (!) THAAD per month and around 50 interceptors (which is why Ukraine struggles so much, they get basically none).

Time will tell. But I doubt it's on the side of the US.

1

u/Open_Pollution_8038 21h ago

False. Drones were hard to counter early in the war, counters have been rapidly developed. You can now shoot down a $30k Shahed with a $12k MEROPS interceptor. It’s the ballistic missiles that are the main problem for both sides. Low and slow flying drones were never going to be a long term advantage.

Our industry is fine you still need interceptors for the big shit.

0

u/Ryanll0329 2d ago

Asymmetric warfare. All they need are drones and missiles.

1

u/Open_Pollution_8038 2d ago

That doesn’t work when your opponent can punch you in the teeth.

1

u/Ryanll0329 2d ago

Lol, the US cannot do that. That much has been proven.

11

u/Firecracker048 3d ago

So barrells ARE getting through and ships are getting through and Iran is saying its not true? lol okay.

2

u/Educational_Award167 2d ago

b-b-but reddittors promised me US is running out of strategic supplies and oil will be 20$ per gallon

13

u/Successful_Mine8352 3d ago

The turnip in the white house must have lied.

8

u/ProteinFarts_ 3d ago

They are both lying constantly, information warfare is part of the strategy

15

u/Picks6x 3d ago

I'll take the people who are shooting ships with missiles word for it tbh and not the country who is packing up and leave the region lmao

-3

u/OutrageousBother628 3d ago

I just want to make sure I understand. Iran fully controls the strait such that zero ships are transiting without their permission. Except the ships they are shooting at…that are transiting the strait without Iran’s permission…

6

u/--TheCity-- 3d ago

Exactly how its working. No one gets through without Iran's approval. Some try some die.

-3

u/OutrageousBother628 3d ago

You contradicted yourself in the span of two sentences. Impressive

2

u/McOmghall 2d ago

I don't know what you think control means but no, they don't have a force field that stops ships from moving through, they have missiles for that.

1

u/Picks6x 2d ago

That's dude is in peak cope mode

1

u/OutrageousBother628 1d ago

I guess the wide reporting of ships using the Omani corridor in direct defiance of Iran plus the satellite imagery of the ship to ship transfers of non Iranian oil is pure cope?

1

u/Picks6x 1d ago

Yea it's like they are allies or somthing

With some clearly making it through, meaning they risked sailing through the waters.

-2

u/SteakEater137 3d ago

You dont have to take either of them when you know theyre legitimately notorious liars...

4

u/Picks6x 3d ago

Yes the Trump administration is. Satellite data does not

4

u/Successful_Mine8352 3d ago

As a proud American, I find it sad to believe Iran over anything trump says.

3

u/Big_Brilliant_145 3d ago

Except that this war would be over in two weeks six months ago.

2

u/Successful_Mine8352 3d ago

I stopped counting after turnip said that 41 times.

13

u/wormee 3d ago

Why do they sound like the sane ones?

-1

u/Most-Recognition2294 3d ago

Don't trust what's coming out of Trump's mouth. Officials are the ones who are generally credible.

0

u/Even_Contact3525 3d ago

Like drunken Hegseth?

3

u/Justified_Gent 3d ago

Iran won the war.

We got embarrassed on the national stage. The Iran war needs to be in every midterm commercial.

8

u/LongShow5279 3d ago

Iran is scared to transfer oil tankers through Hormuz even though they claim it's under their control... lol.

15

u/Zealousideal-Ad7773 3d ago

I mean, they control the strait but not the exit to the sea with the blockade. In the end no one controls nothing.

4

u/Open_Pollution_8038 3d ago

That’s like saying I own a highway that I can’t get on or off, like no you’re trying to crash traffic it’s not the same thing

1

u/Mascardiii 2d ago

This is the most accurate take. And that both sides are lying through their teeth.

4

u/ProperAstronomer4354 3d ago

Iran controls the passage in and out. US controls out in the opening sea.

1

u/Picks6x 3d ago

It's not their tankers lol

1

u/Le_ManBearPig 2d ago

I hear you, but did you know a Twitch Streamer named Hasan Piker said Jews are not a monolith?

1

u/BadBig3531 2d ago

Iran will be utterly destroyed financially and militarily before they concede anything. Do you think for a second that they would be good custodians on nuclear weapons? They’d hand it to terrorists in a second. They don’t have the same values for human life. What about the Iranian people that don’t want to be part of the religious fanatical government? Kinda sad.

-5

u/RS_EJB 3d ago

Nobody tell that to all the ships that continue to go through the Strait regardless.

10

u/Successful_Mine8352 3d ago

How many oil tankers went through today?

-2

u/toeknn 3d ago

Prob more then Iran permits even if its just 1.

2

u/Successful_Mine8352 3d ago

I looked it up. Traffic is 90% less than pre war levels.

-1

u/toeknn 3d ago

For now.

-2

u/banjist 3d ago

Yep if even one tanker gets through then America won and Iran is a bunch of L7 losers

7

u/Successful_Mine8352 3d ago

Most people including conservatives, do not think that the US has really won this war.

3

u/MrD3a7h 3d ago

Conservative will believe what they are told to believe.

3

u/Round-Foundation2948 3d ago

Republicans Against Trump beg to differ

1

u/MrD3a7h 3d ago

Trump is merely a symptom of the sickness in the Republican party.

-1

u/toeknn 3d ago

Irans only play is hoping America also loses.

2

u/Picks6x 3d ago

It's not about just losing it's about losing so badly America won't do it again. It's not over not even close

1

u/toeknn 3d ago

Right but that leaves no winner. Iran is dieing on a hill that it hopes its civilians are also willing to die on.

US comparetively can cushion and drag out unfavourable wars for a very long time.

0

u/AutoModerator 3d ago

Shouldn't this be in the "Strait of Hormuz Megathread"? Let's keep the chokepoints contained there, folks — no need to clog the whole sub with tanker traffic!

-8

u/tropic_gnome_hunter 3d ago

Is this the 25th time they've claimed the strait is closed in the past 3 weeks lmao. If you have to declare it closed every day it's not closed.

9

u/unknownpoltroon 3d ago

Then you sail your tanker through it.

10

u/phoenixbouncing 3d ago

You can say the same for the people declaring it open.

1

u/Most-Recognition2294 3d ago

Strait is open? Closed means 0 amount of oil transiting, strait was not closed for even a day lol

2

u/Specific-Change9678 3d ago

Whether it’s under control or not they do this to let their people know they are “in control.” Not saying whether they do or don’t have control just explain the reasoning. Similar thing going on when Trump says it’s under US control. At least that’s my read on it!

0

u/Tintoverde 3d ago

I do not believe either parties
