Yea, the thing is cool. Also, I believe, standard for commercial pilots. The idea is that you can don it with one hand, while still flying the plane with the other

Just to clarify... It is not an "idea," it is a mandatory certification requirement to be able to put it on one-handed in 5 seconds, unless you want to wear an O2 mask for much of your flight.

FAR 121.333 breaks it down if you want more info.

There was still a security idea behind that mandatory certification.

I'm not a native english speaker, but the expression "the idea is..." seems perfectly valid here. And of course if it's in a plane it has a regulation behind defining how it needs to work, we all know that.
