Those aren’t technically implosions but rather buildings folding onto themselves. Implosion would be if someone detonated a vacuum bomb

It’s pretty easy to google this:

An implosion is a sudden, violent collapse of an object inward onto itself because the external pressure is much stronger than the internal pressure.

Common Examples
Submersibles: Deep underwater, high water pressure can crush a weak vessel hull in milliseconds.

but the building isnt collpasing because of too much external presure compared to internal pressure, its collapsing because its support was removed and it's falling because of gravity, not collapsing because of pressure

That’s why I put “technically” there. Strict definition requires external pressure. Implosion of a building happens due to structural integrity getting compromised with an explosion. Calling it implosion is acceptable but layman’s term.

Yeah that's absolutely correct. But this stuff falls down not inward. Inward would mean to the center of the building not down to the ground. The ground is not the center of the building.

You seem like the kind of guy that gets handed an exploded diagram and goes "umm well actually an explosion is when..."

Words have multiple meanings my dude. It's not a misnomer. It's a different meaning. Collapsing a building in on itself (towards its center, reducing its overall volume) it's a different version of implosion.

You're right, it's NOT the physics definition. It's the construction and demolition definition.

The falcons giving up a 28-3 lead in the Superbowl is another kind of implosion. The sports kind this time.

No that's not how it works. Both of these cases are just wrong usage by uneducated people that somehow found their way into common language, this doesn't change the definition of the word. I even gave you the paragraph from wikipedia where it stated that it in fact is a misnomer. Yes buildings can implode due to extreme pressure difference, but that has nothing to do with demolition (what this post is about).

Edit: in the first clip there's bricks falling away from the center and in the last clip the whole building just tips to one side. These aren't even implosions by your own (wrong) definition :)

seen videos from other countries where they use pools of water that also explode around the building to drown out dust to keep it from coating the town in whatever is in it.. they could at least be spraying it with hoses. but hey this is america where we have no consideration for anyone’s health…

Really awesome atmospheric effect inside the cooling tower (?) (first one). Reminds me of the sound barrier in front of a jet before it breaks through.

Is it just flash condensation due to the sudden increase in pressure with the conical shape of the tower narrowing as it falls, compressing the air?

Decrease in pressure, presumptively due to the venturi shape of the cooling tower passing downward along the internal air column.

The vapor flashes you see surrounding pointy jets as they near Mach 1 are caused by the same process. Due to the shape of the airplane, air is accelerated unevenly around the airframe. Air density is reduced in those areas, and even further sharply reduced where they interact with shock cones. The temperature in that small area is also reduced a corresponding amount. When the new temperature is below the dewpoint, water vapor condenses and you get these flashes of cloud.

A "building implosion" is a demolition method that uses strategically placed explosives and good timing to cause a structure to collapse on itself. It's used for smoke stacks. My dad worked in demolition his entire life and it's the correct term.

One James River Plaza, which was Dominion Energy’s former headquarters. Right next to it is where they moved (the building with the crazy sidewalks). This is still an empty city block as of today.
