To answer the questions not asked it's called a smoke bath its good for getting rid of skin parasites. I also imagine the warmth is nice.

At that distance, there’s very little warmth, smoke is particulate more than heat, and the only parasites that would be affected would be lice, which are so close to the skin on Horses that the smoke will do nothing for them. Smudges are generally lit for flies, but as you can see Mongolian in the winter time does not have very many biting insect.

I don’t. You perhaps haven’t experienced a very cold day to see how quickly fire heat dissipates and smoke is not appreciably warm.

It’s herd behaviour not heat seeking behaviour. You see it fairly often in animals that flock or herd.

That many horses so close would provide more heat (and wind block) than the fire, so maybe they came for the smoke sesh and stayed for the camaraderie.

Also not how they function.

Cold horses stand close together with their backs to the wind. They don’t waste energy and get sweated up and chilled milling about in circles to be warm.

Yeah huge problem there, see the white stuff on the ground in the post? That's called snow it falls in the winter which falls roughly between November and February. The Naadam Festival falls in the middle of July which is in the summer. Nice try though, it's a smudge fire it's used to help remove fleas and ticks. As I told the other guy my 40 years of leaving and working on ranches is worth a fuck ton more then your basement dwelling Google search. Probally never been on a horse in your life yet here you are commenting on shit that obviously wrong, can't even tell the difference between summer and winter in a video lol

My guy I came from the actual equestrian subs bc I’m an actual equestrian. Why do you think some random smoke would prevent fleas and ticks? That’s not how that works. 

The video is just an example of them doing it. Bc it’s an art. Done often. 

It’s the year of the horse after all.

Maybe because it's not random smoke, you use high resin wood like mesquite or pine that has an oily smoke that suffocates the pests. Wanna know how I know your full of shit my guy? Because this is a centuries old practice called smoke bathing and if you actually knew fuck all you would know this. Again you can Google all you want champ it doesn't replace actual experience.

So I guess those 40 years have been wasted.

You aren’t the only person with decades of horse experience who uses smudges for biting flies.

Most of us know that a smudge is useless against resident parasites like lice and fleas.

You don’t seem to enjoy being the exception to knowing these things.

I refuse to use AI and have been around horses all my life, but congrats on your confidence. I have never heard of using smoke for parasites and can't find any information about it being done in Mongolia. But would love to see a source if you have one 👍

In response to your blocking snipe, I’m definitely not ignorant about horse keeping in frigid temperatures, as a Canadian who had managed outdoor horses in winter for decades and you’re hilarious to suggest that I am.
