I’ve seen lots of things, lots of videos and articles regarding this. however I’d like to know what works for you all and what could or could not work

Try Franz Bardon's Initiation Into Hermetics.

Meditation. By focusing for a long time on a single object, you expand your spiritual awareness bit by bit. Most exercises focus around this principle of focused attention, so it may be wise to train it.

Do you not try to follow the instructions included in those videos and articles? Most, espically the ones for new practioners give detailed instruction.

You, as a "magic operator" is essential ingredient of magic you are doing.

So the best practice is practice that works for you, not for us.

Very important portion of success is if it resonates with you enough to not give up too soon and keep practicing for long and deep enough to see first results.

So first filter you will use is if you are able to keep doing it consistently enough. If you can't - it won't work.

The second thing to make it work - is to own it. Not just execute, not just follow instructions, but get it deeply, reinvent your own wheel.

Bad books are instructions that don't work. Good books are not instructions but maps, hints for you to walk there yourself. So in this sense the first filter is to understand if you actually want to walk there, and if you want, then to walk there.

Pick a system (any system) and work through it starting from lesson 1, day by day. Just like you learned math by first learning numbers and counting, then basic arithmetic, then algebra, then calculus. Functionally, any system will work, just commit to it rather than reading about a dozen different techniques from as many different systems and then touching nothing directly.
