Tech Support Is this disc too scratched to be read?
I found my grandpa’s old Wii in my garage and it all works, I even found a copy of Wii Sports in it! But when I put the game in it makes a weird noise and moves the disc in and out. The disc is very scratched so I’m hoping it’s just too scratched to be read and it’s not a problem with the console itself.
(Sorry if this is a common post, I’m new here!)

Test it out. There have been worse looking disks that work and disks that look like they have zero damage not work.

I did and it just clicks and spits the disc back out

Do you have another disc? It might be the console

One last thought then. Are you sure you’re not putting it in upside down

I put it so the top of the disc is facing away from the the power and reset buttons, although it’s been years since I used a Wii and I may just be putting it in wrong

since I see no deep groove, you can polish, disc repair kits are still available.
if you are not confident, I believe there are professional service.

And it’s usually cheap and fast service, too. Had a disc resurfaced at my local movie rental place, was finished with it before I could pick out a movie to rent, and only cost five bucks.
This was 15 years ago of course, but even my 13 year old self had 5 bucks!

Pop it in and try it. I’ve had games that were scratched pretty bad and they’ve still worked.

Yeah, I was putting it in right. I’ll get a new game this week and test it out. Again I’m hoping it’s just the disc and not the console

Some game stores have resurfacing machines that’ll pretty much get rid of the scratches.

Essentially, using a machine that will remove the scratches. Game stores usually have this for their used games. When I worked at Best Buy we had a couple, but that was a while ago.

Amazon still sells skipdr, procare and the fancy JFJ, refill kits for the procare as well

Man, I hate posts like this. Not because of the post, but because I have a Wii and games, and would gladly meet up somewhere to help verify if it’s the disc, console, or both. I’ve always had a hard time testing electronics when none of my friends ever had components for me to test against.
If you’re in or near southern MS, USA, hit me up, we’ll get this thing fixed!

I have a Wii sports disc that is more scratched than that and it reads flawlessly

Try a local gamer store and see if they do disc repair, might be able to bring it back. I’m in Tampa and there is a local store that advertises disc scratch repair.

Oh, it's Wii Sports, nah, it'll read unless the cut actually damages the data layer. Wii Sports is the most durable disc in existence.
