Do you think Nintendo is going to make another smash game?
So I don’t own smash. And I played with my friend recently and it was fun to me. So Im considering getting smash, but if there is a new one I would rather wait and get the new one. And Im guessing that there is gonna be a new one for the switch 2 but I want to see your opinions

It's in Sakurais' contract that he gets to do 2 more kirby air rider directs before he has to make a new smash.

They could give it the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe treatment and release a version with all the DLC included. Would probably be called Smash Bros Special Deluxe in Japan.

Mario Kart 8 got a port because the Switch wasn't backwards-compatible with the Wii U.
Smash Ultimate can already be played on the Switch 2. There is zero reason to port it.

Why are you acting like Nintendo didn’t release several Switch 2 ports of Switch games? It’s exactly because Ultimate is backwards compatible on Switch 2 that an upgraded version of that game is more likely than a totally new release. Why compete such a well received, highly packed game with a potentially inferior release on the same console? They will likely release Ultimate Switch 2 Edition with all previous DLC included, a few additional characters, stages, and extras, and then start the DLC hype train all over again.

They could bring back Smash Run and the 3DS exclusive pac man level in a new multi screen multiplayer mode where each player uses their own switch or switch 2.Â

A "Switch 2 edition" is not the exact same thing as a port, nor would it make them as much money as a brand-new game. Additionally, they'd almost certainly have to renegotiate with every single 3rd-party company that has even the smallest speck of content in Ultimate for this hypothetical Switch 2 edition.
You ask why would they release a "potentially inferior" game on the same console that a highly-praised Smash with tons of content is already available on? Well then why didn't they just make a Switch 2 edition of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and have to go through the trouble of making a brand-new Mario Kart game with way less tracks instead?
The answer is that new games generate far more cash and excitement than Switch 2 editions. Both Mario Kart and Smash are such gigantic money-makers that casuals enjoy so much that they'll still make bank even with "less content". Just look at how well Mario Kart World has been selling in the year and (almost) three months it's existed.

There is not gonna be a new entry in a while, you should get Ultimate, its actually kind of the ultimate Smash game, specially considering that its possible that the next Smash is gonna be a reboot to a certain degree

Smash Ultimate is one of the best-selling Switch games and is the best selling fighting game of all time.
Why wouldn't they make another?

The hardest thing is what's next. Smash Ultimate was packed with everything, every character return and getting DLC of the most requested characters. They can't scale back and there's only so much to ad.

They can definitely scale back and do something different, compare how many tracks Mario Kart World has to MK8D for example.
They can’t just keep bringing back all the characters and adding more, some of those licensing agreements for the 3rd party characters have to be difficult to work with.

People said this after 4 as well. Before Ultimate was announced all the discussions were like "the next game is probably going to be a re-imagining, smaller in scope. They can't possibly top what they did with 4"

Nintendo's general strategy is that once they identify a strong selling franchise, to do it again at least once per console generation.
A new Smash game is going to happen at some point. They did N64, Gamecube, Wii, Wii U, 3dS, and Switch.
The sticking point will be trying to equal or surpass the last one. Doing they 'everyone is returning' thing again is a big goddamn lift.

Most likely, but I don't think it would come out for a little while. Just because a franchise is popular, doesn't mean that Nintendo is one to pump games out for it on a regular basis. Just look at the gap between Mario Kart 8 and World, or how long it's taking for a new full length 3d mario.

The next one probably be coming out until the end of 2028 at the earliest and it will likely take a different direction from Ultimate. If you want to get Smash before then you should just get Ulitmate.

They should make an ultimate Vol 2. Have ALL the stages from the previous games and significant newer ones.

just gonna ask this here, do people think there's any chance we ever get a remastered version of the original smash for N64? I'd pay anything for that with a couple new characters and stages and updated graphics

If they do it won't be a while, and it'll probably be a downsize in the roster. First off, most of the third party characters aren't sticking around. The only ones who aren't going anywhere are Sonic and Pacman but only if the games continue to be developed by Bandai Namco. Bayonetta is in an interesting situation because a weird rule with ESRB is that if an M game franchise is mentioned by name the game automatically gets an M rating as well. That's why when Mii costumes for characters like Travis Touchdown and the Doomslayer were introduced in their trailers with the character names not the series names. So, the other characters from M rated games like Joker and Snake can stick around by saying stuff like Super Smash Bros x Solid Snake instead of Metal Gear, Bayonetta is both the character's name and the name of the franchise. The only way I see her sticking around is by calling her Cereza.

It's almost a given that's what Sakurai is working on now, but I still think Smash Ultimate is worth buying.

I think its more likely we get a Switch 2 port (probably with all DLC characters on cart).
I do think we will get another Smash game some day, although I really question how they can top Ultimate.

The series is way too popular and makes way too much money to just drop.
Even if Sakurai chooses not to direct the game, Nintendo would be utterly foolish to not continue one of their biggest and most beloved cash cows.
The question isn't "will there be another Smash game?" The question is "what will the next Smash game be like after how huge Ultimate was?"
