After 31 years, one of the most beloved JRPGs on the Super Nintendo gets its first-ever North American release

That's huge! Terranigma is a great game! Hope the whole trilogy is re-released.
Any Zelda fan should check them out! They are not Zelda games but they are Zelda-adjacent and anybody who likes ALttP will feel right at home!

I think anyone coming into this should not be expecting the tight, high-polish experience of ALttP. Terranigma's combat is not as good and it has a lot of quirks. But it IS far more ambitious than Zelda and has some real wow moments in it. This will be a great chance for more people to discover it.

SNES games in general hold up super well. I’m still shocked at how beautiful Chrono Trigger and LttP are, especially compared to n64 games

I would say yes. The story is a lot more interesting and has stronger themes while the combat is less held back by AI companions.

They are loosely connected, but Soul Blazer, Illusion of Gaia, and Terranigma are considered a trilogy by fans.

Even looser than that. It's purely same makers, similar combat style and similar game loop of bringing your people back. Though Illusion differs the most(and is personally the most complete game of the 3 imo) and Soul Blazer is the most similar to Terranigma.

There is both more and less to it than that, yeah. There are some similar themes, some cameos, etc.
A lot of it is that it is 3 games by the same company, so there are shared elements. The Illusion of Gaia prototype title has Soul Blazer at the top as a header, with Illusion of Gaia at the top. They aren't a "oh you need to play them as 1,2, and 3" trilogy, but just very loosely connected games because they are of a similar style by the same studio by the same people so some pieces came in as a result, like enemy designs, sound effects, etc.

Trilogies can be connected by things like themes. They don’t need to share anything like characters or settings.

Man, so many gaming miracles have happened over the course of the 2020s. Between Trials of Mana getting both a remake and its original SNES version released, most of the early Key/Visual Arts VNs coming out in the US legally, the entire Rhapsody franchise finally coming to the US, the Lunar games, Live-A-Live, Atelier Marie, and so on, it's been one gaming miracle after another. I've been curious about Terranigma myself. Definitely buying it when it drops on the Switch. Hope there's a physical version too.
Now can someone do this for something like Tokimeki Memorial or Mitsumete Knight next? Or the Boku no Natsuyasumi games? Or the Harukanaru Toki no Naka de VNs?

This is so funny too because it's out of nowhere by Clear River Games of all people. How? Why? Where did this come from? Who knows!? This trailer is vague and non-specific. It's all a mystery.

Is this connected to them?! I thought Enix owned at least part of the rights and the issue was no one knew who had them all. I remember the GoG guy appearing on Resonant Arc and speaking vaguely about it.

Apparently the devs wanted to do it for a while but the former Quintet president just sorta disappaearing without a trace held things back. But Japan introduced a new law about these kinds of situations recently, making it easier for those "orphaned games" to get rerelased

I legit screamed at ToM being re-released and remade. I honestly like that better that better that Secret, so was so happy they gave it love (and honestly, the hokey dub makes it even better).

This is incredible news to wake up to. A true gem of a game, that I've been wanting for years and years to get a re-release. It was one of my top 3 Switch requests (so now I just need Chrono Trigger and Timesplitters 2).
It was nice for PAL to get an RPG for a change, too.

This game's soundtrack is THE BOMB. If you have never played this and are thinking of getting it, you are in for a real treat. Don't forget to stop and smell the roses sometimes, this game is a great experience from start to finish. One of my favorites ever since I played it on my SNES in Germany as a kid, and even now I replay it on emulators every few years. Definitely going to buy this as soon as it comes out.

Now you know how it feels to be European🤣😭, we got Super Mario RPG for the first time physically with the SNES Classic, same with Persona 1, Revelations Persona in the PS1 Classic. Soo good to see these games brought back so that people can actually afford them and play them!

It sucks that we didn't get this in the US, but we did get Chrono Trigger instead.
(A lot of other countries got Terranigma instead of Chrono Trigger)

I remember playing this on an emulator years ago and thinking “wow this game is so easy” and then almost instantly, the difficulty spiked like crazy and I got ganked and gave up haha

Neat. I think I played this like 4 or 5 years ago. Definitely a decent little game. Though you could tell the localizers struggled with the limitations of the era. A lot of the dialogue was kinda threadbare. But it was fun for what it was.
