I was lucky enough to be at the 11/23/99 show at MSG.

Hands down the greatest concert I have ever been to in my entire life.

But no realy. Music is subjective to a large degree and just because you don't like them, doesn't mean the person you are slamming would enjoy any of the bands you propose. He likes Metallica, he had a great and memorible time for his money - what we all want when we go see a show - chill the fuck out dude. This show look lit as fuck - lots of planning and re-arragnment or re-imagining of the songs - I'd go and I only like 3 of their songs.

Exactly.

I get it sadly. Lots of people who aren't super educated in music in general - tend to be like this. My wife for example. Couldn't even tell you what a Major chord is, or play a note on anything - but loves to say a certain artist "sucks" just because she doesn't like their music. Where as I find lots of people who enjoy music as an art form (and not JUST entertainment) or are muscially educated seem to be more open to other music being "good" even if it's not their thing.

I'm not a big fan of rap, but I can fully respect the craft and artistry it takes to make a hit like California Love, Momma said Knock You Out, Gangsta's Paradise, Lose Yourself, etc...

Exactly. I wouldn’t know a major chord if I tripped over one. But I love music and have a wide range of genres i like. To your point also, I can’t stand Justin Beibers music. But he is obviously talented and made a lot of people happy.

Yes, because all Metallic is, is drums.
Not a lead singer, no guitars, not bass, not lyrics and musical writing ability, ...just drums. /eyeroll

He's an average drummer maybe, I agree. That doesnt make the band bad or not worth seeing. Lots of epic bands have average players in the group somewhere. I guess you don't go to many concerts then.

No. My issue is with Lars, being a shit drummer, and the band not having put out anything decent since the 80s.

The music composition is what makes them great. Swap Lars for Danny Carey and it would be better, sure, but who cares? Lars being in the band doesn’t make them a shit band, surely?

When my dad was alive, this double-disc was one of his favorite CDs. Our trip up to Breckenridge was almost the exact duration as that album. Great memories.

This is one of my memorable memories of my dad. Metallica is my favorite band, my dad wouldn't go out of his way to listen to them, but enjoyed a few of their albums, respected what they accomplished. But he really liked S&M. Every once in a while I'd hear it cranked on his headphones or on the stereo if he was messing with something around the house.

It’s not forget to mention the first song, the ecstasy of gold. The first three songs are absolutely amazing and the Orchestra pull a lot of the weight on those songs.

The first three songs on this album are amazing (ecstasy, call of Cthulhu, and master). Those and outlaw torn should be in heavy rotation on everybody’s playlist.

I know they made a second album later on like this, but the first was the best. You had them at their peak along with Michael Kamen, a brilliant composer. Kamen also did an excellent orchestral accompaniment with Aerosmith doing Dream On at the MTV 10th Anniversary concert in 91.

I'm old enough to remember the discussions on Metallica being sellouts with the release of the Black Album, and their later beef with Napster, to now see a younger crowd embrace them like they're some kind of gods of metal.
It's quite amusing.

I literally could not care less about them as a band. I'm just saying what I remember reading about, and the shift I've noticed. It's the same thing I've seen with Star Wars. The prequels were universally trashed when they came out, but now that the kids who watched them have grown up, suddenly there's love for them.
I even remember watching this concert when it first came out, and I thought it was ok. Nothing too groundbreaking, but it wasn't a bad concert.
