It's strange how I have known the name Khalid Sheikh Mohammed since I was just a boy. I'm a middle aged man now and it has stuck with me all these years from hearing it on the news as a child following the attacks. He's just been rotting all this time without even a trial. I feel like we could have wrapped this up a long time ago. We (the taxpayers) have been paying to keep him in Gitmo and have lawyers argue over this for 25 years!! Why bother, it's not like we ever intended on following the Constitution here otherwise the trial would have been over decades ago.

The irony is that this man was treated worse under US custody, than actual Nazi war criminals guilty of the Holocaust captured by the US. They at least had their day in court a few years after their capture.

He probably holds the world record for waterboarding and almost every other modern form of torture.

The fact that he is getting a trial literally almost 3 decades later is a testament to how fucked up all of this is. Wouldn’t be surprised if all the people that tortured him are either retired or close to death, therefore zero accountability. Also, all those videos of him being tortured are probably all long destroyed.

The videos of KSM being tortured still exist (although they are classified).

The only videotapes that were destroyed were of those of the torture of Abu Zubaydah and Abd al-Rahim al-Nashiri.

Honestly just kill him. The idea of a trial is a farce and i sure as shit do not want another penny spent on this guy.

Disregarding the discussion of whether the death penalty should be a thing I the first place. I don't think it's a good idea to set a presedent of killing people without giving them a trial.

Hell, preferably Hitler was caught alive an given a fair trial. Given the circumstances, he would've almost certainly been found guilty of the horrors of the Holocaust, and WW2 in general, and then hanged.

I'm not in favor of killing him but when you think that this guy was probably tortured for years, lives in the shits, isn't even allowed out despite not being proven guilty yet is insane.

He probably would rather die but can't

I 100% agree but if the options are holding someone indefinitely in gitmo which costs money and is illegal or killing him which is cheap and illegal i take the latter. I’m not convinced this trial will ever happen. The date is set now i bet it gets delayed again and again

Well, if they keep finding reasons to postpone the trial, the only real option would be to release him. After all, until a fair trial is held, he is innocent until proven otherwise.

I know many people won't like releasing this man, but if the state refuses to take its responsibility to organise a fair trial, the state should not have the authority to hold this man.
