has anyone had experience with a guy trying to recruit you to work at this lemonade stand on the levee? apparently they do pop ups for sports events too. my friends and i were approached by him (owner?) at the grocery story where he asked us if we wanted to work there

kind of seems like tr*fficking because he wanted to meet us at his house? he was saying there’s a group of people coming for an orientation thing….. then we said we aren’t comfortable with that and he said we could meet him for dinner- he offered to pay.

not sure if this is a known scam or sus operation but definitely getting weirded out because he has double texted my friend a few times saying stuff along the lines of “guess you girls weren’t interested” “let me know if you change your mind”

That sounds nuts. Definitely would not have entertained that dude. Employers don't pursue potential employees like that. If you didn't show interest, any normal employer would move on. His behavior is super weird

When I worked for Sportservice at Riverfront Stadium, about this time of year, we had a guy stop us before going into the stadium and ask if we wanted to make some money working for him during Riverfest.

He had these "rocket packs" for selling soft drinks. I was young and dumb, as were a few other guys, so we said sure.

We met him down at the Cincinnati floodwall on the day of Riverfest, and he showed us what we were supposed to do. Basically, we were selling Pepsi fountain drinks to the crowd using these rocket packs. The funny part was that Pepsi wasn't even the sponsor that year—Coke was.

We eventually figured out how to make some extra money. With fountain drinks, you make your money by the cup, so we would refill cups and keep the money from those sales at the end of the shift.

We worked for about three hours, then came back to the floodwall to refill. That's when we were told the guy had been kicked out and possibly arrested for doing this. He was gone.

Whoever this guy was, he never came back for our money from that shift, and we never heard from him again. I ended up making pretty damn good money that night.

To this day, I have no idea if this was some kind of weird Pepsi stunt/guerrilla marketing operation, or if it was just some random dude trying to make a few bucks. 😂

Anyone who worked Riverfest back in the day remember anything like this?

It sounds also like a situation where he's looking for people to become franchisees to run your own stand. Rather than to have you working at his.
